The Case for Dean
Everybody has been talking about how Gore ran a piss poor presidential campaign in 2000. Campaigning is obviously part of the strategy to win. Everybody says that Dean is not electable, yet he has run the best campaign of any of them. It has been done with enginuity and a great message and he presents himself as a clear alternative to Bush. I think that some of his policies on Gun control might garner some conservative states that would not go Dem with somebody who wants much more strict gun legislation. I have heard that even some moderate republicans are intrigued by him. That is not the case with some other candidates. If Dean could not beat Bush, who can? I do not have any faith in Gephardt and Lieberman being able to pull off a victory against Bush. Clark or Kerry might be able to. Furthermore, people say that if Dean runs, write off the South, but I think that we could win a couple of those states such as Louisiana and MAYBE Florida if we fought hard enough and kept Jeb in check. Well that is my opinion. Whether Dean is the nominee or not, I hope for a huge Dem victory over Bush in '04.

1. That's the case for Trippi.
He seems to be the driving force behind the Dean movement, which has grown much larger than Dean himself.

Dean would have an extremely hard time winning Louisiana, BTW. Our key to victory in the recent Senate and Governor's elections has been that our candidate frankly appeared more the good old girl than their opponents. 2004 will be won or lost in the rust belt and in the intermountain west.

8. Trippi for DNC chair
I'm curious how much of the campaign is Trippi and how much is Dean.

Stuff like the bat is obviously Trippi, but things like the fundraising drive for Boswell, an important congressional seat, might be Dean moves.

2. The case for Edwards:
When you stand him next to Bush, the constrast is very apparent. That's not the case with the other candidates.

Check out these two pictures. See what I mean?

10. What I want is that Dean picture where he's doing the Roman thing
Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 11:45 PM by AP
with the discus from his St. George's yearbook.

Anyone have that one?

I'll also put in the one of Clark saluting in bed with his war injury.

Anyone have a picture of any of the other candidates doing something revealing their true character between the ages 17-22? I'd love a picture of a 15 year old Sharpton in the pulpit, or Gephardt doing some manual labor.

13. The same case applies to Clark
not to mention many other democratic candidates.

Kucinich lived in a car as a kid,
Gephardt's parents didn't finish high school,
Sharpton was not exactly rich.

It's just that Edwards seems to be emphasizing it more in his campaign.

15. The more that Edwards has attacked the interests Bush represents
in the course of his life, the more success he has had.

I don't know if any other candidate can say that.

Even Kucinich lost his seat as mayor after taking on the oligopoly. Edwards just kept winning bigger and bigger the more he contrasted himself to, and reprented in conflict with the world Bush represents.

5. your case doesn't include any substance
That's what's been worrying me about Dean. For several months, Dean has only been about money and strategy, and a persecution complex.

9. Primary campaigns are NOT PARALLEL in any way to a general election
Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 11:45 PM by Bombtrack
if they were, Bush was a much stronger candidate than McCain would have been.

Right?

Dean and Gephardt are the least electable serious candidates by a wide, wide, margin first and foremost because they want to raise middle class taxes. There are dozens of other reasons that added up make would hurt Dean more than the tax issue, but that is the single biggest single one

12. True
but I suspect Dean will reverse himself on that before long, if he is the nominee anyways.

16. Well, if Rush is telling his dittoheads to NOT listen to what Dean
has to say and instead listen to him (the druggie), doesn't that tell you something? The repugs are petrified of this man.

17. Two months ago Rushh was trying to give Dean campaign advice
to help him beat the Democrats.

What's he saying now?

18. Here's Why I Believe Dean (If Nominated) Will Win
Again - IF NOMINATED

Facing Bush you have a few problems:

1) Bush = Sitting President during 9-11 & "War"
2) Bribes, er "Tax-Cuts"
3) 200 Million+ Bucks
4) Bushco=Cheating Liars

So, what do you do? Do you run a military hero? A Tax cutter?
A Corporate whore? A better Cheater?

If you try to fight Bush on his strengths, what will you get?

"Hi, I'm the Dem Candidate X, I'll give you everything Bush promisses. Vote For Me! Why?-'Cause I'm a better Bush than Bush! Whoohoo!"

How in the hell will that win?

You cannot run a standard campaign against Bush. It's a no go. You cannot out-Bush Bush. Has 4 years of Dems trying to be Repugs taught us nothing?

To get around Bush, you have to perform a quad bypass.

To do that, you have to go directly to the people, revive our Democraic heritage, and send the message out that it is not politicians that will save America, it is not the press, and it is not even the Democratic party - IT IS AMERICANS who must save America.

So far, Dean is the only candidate who I have seen act as if he understood that concept, and once understood, was able to act on it.

This campaign is NOT about Dean. It is about you, me, and the people next door. Dean's campaign can help take back our country, one voter at a time.

Nothing that Bush has at his disposal is more powerful than you and me. Not when we wake up, and bring home the vote.

19. Who can beat Bush?
That's the big question, the really important one. Nominating the candidate who "best represents Democratic ideals" doesn't mean doodley-squat if he doesn't win. Winning isn't everything; in politics, it's the only thing that really counts.

Dean has some great strengths, but he also has weaknesses, as does every candidate. We have a strong field, and the winner will deserve the nomination.

The most important thing is to remember that we cannot win without a united party. Whoever wins, the losers will have to put aside all the fighting for the nomination and close ranks behind him, or we will be looking at four more years of . . . well, you get the picture.
