Why don't "conservatives" talk about deficits?
Because they have a tendency to ignore all things uncomfortable or things that might expose their loose grip on reality. Just as they do not talk about Bush's lies. They pretend it isn't important. They would rather talk about "liberal media" or Hollywood, or "cultural" issues, or religion, or marriage as a sacred institution, or all the "good" things happening in Iraq. But they do not ever want to talk about the huge deficits that run counter to everything traditional conservatives have confessed to believe. We can only deduce that they believe in the fairy tale that, we will continue to cut taxes and grow out of this deficit, or they are not really "conservatives". They are more accurately political reactionaries.

1. Because they're either stupid or selfish.
I have yet to run into a Reagan-era or later republican who I didn't feel was stupid or selfish, and that is what drove their vote.

3. Because they're not conservatives
in the old sense of the word. They are social conservatives only, not fiscal conservatives.

11. Right on Cassandra!
And it always works for them?? Why? Because there is no one with influence that can call them on it. The press? Where?

12. Social vs. Fiscal Conservatives
Social conservatives don't care about deficits, debt, or the value of the dollar. In fact, I almost feel as if they welcome rising deficits, rising debt, and the devaluation of the dollar because that means money is being choked off from their most hated parts of the government: Social programs and education. All social conservatives care about is enforcing their morality on others in the form of defining marriage, removing a woman's choice, and getting the word of God into public education.

Fiscal conservatives are just as hypertensive and angry at this administration as we are (we being tha large tent of liberalism).

The problem is that there are very few fiscal conservatives any longer and a whole lot more social conservatives. Hence why consumer debt grew four times as fast as real GDP in the 3rd quarter of this year.

That increase in GDP and the associated hype about it says a whole lot about who runs the show now in the Republican Party: Spend like there is no tomorrow, because at the rate we're going there won't be a tomorrow!

13. Party uber alles
They are Republicans FIRST, Americans LAST.

Anything that even remotely hurts the chances of having a
One Party State is NEVER discussed.

They don't complain about deficits, they don't complain
about redistricting, they don't complain about enronomics,
they don't complain about nationbuilding, they don't complain
about government spying in our bedrooms and computers,
they don't complain about ANYTHING that will harm George
Bush and Tom Delay's dream of The State controlled by
corporations and the GOP.

They all want to keep their heads down and noses clean so
they will happily benefit when some scraps come their way.

They have to be stupid to think the above is not harmful
to a Democracy and they have to be stupid AND greedy
to think they will benefit.

Wallowing in a pit of sh*t fingering their gold. It's like
something out of Dante; THEY will be untouched and
fabulously wealthy when all their Party's dreams come
true. They want to recreate their vision of Hell on earth
whereby they are happily singing hymns in their golden
mansions in the sky, chortling about the indescribable
suffering their 'enemies' are receiving. All because they
are 'chosen'.

And when the sh*t Does come down and they AREN'T
fingering their gold, the only logical conclusion is that
their 'enemies' are to blame. Perfect psychotic reinforcement.

14. They got tired of losing elections
because they were always trying to raise taxes to cover social spending passed by the Democrats. It's amaizng some of the ways the partys have flipped positions over the years. I can rmember when Democrats never worried about the deficit.

15. Nothing dumber than people voting against their best interests.
Sadly, I think too many really do understand this, but to admit the fact that they've been had is worse than pretending to agree/support this administration. What I wonder is how many "Bush supporters" will privately vote Democrat or not vote at all....maybe more than we realize.

It seems that the more obvious this fact becomes that the Republicans are destroying this country, the more hardened and vocal the support is becoming. As if shouting their indefensible opinions will somehow make them right.

They really are tainted by the sin of pride...better to be wrong and continue the charade than admit their mistakes and work for change.

OTOH, there may come a point where one more outrage will suddenly titrate out their current belief system. And I think those kind of converts who admit to being duped can be very powerful allies in converting their fellow groupthinkers. Sorta like reformed smokers.

19. Its all about Denial........ the Who , Me??? thing and also,
the What! Me Worry? attitude... while the heads are in the sand/ass.

The Pubs hardly ever admit a negative, especially if they caused it, but are quick to claim credit for a positive, even a HINT of a positive.

The Pubs and the way they percieve things are whats gonna kill us all, they gonna sink this friggen lifeboat/Earth yet. They are the weakest LINK.
