I thought about this last night. I know in some states, like New York, it is possible to run on many tickets. In NY, for example, you can run as a Democrat or Liberal or both. You can run as a Republican or Conservative or both.
Can the same be done nationally? Can a Democratic candidate run as a Democrat and a Green? If so, maybe who ever wins the nomination can then challenge Ralph Nader for the Green Party nomination. It would be in the Green Party's best interest. Because, there would be no reason for "true Greens" not to vote for the Green ticket, instead of holding their nose and pulling the Democratic lever. That way, it would be much easier for the Green Party to reach the 5% threshold they need for funds, etc. Green Party candidates running at the local level would also get a boost. In the meantime, the Green Party can't be accused of "splitting the left."
Another benefit, is that the Green Party would have a strong voice in the Democratic Party's nomination process. Think about it. If the Green Party can nominate a Democrat. Then most Democratic candidates would want the Green Party endorsement/nomination. If members of the Green Party feel that the Democratic candidate is too Right-wing or too DLC for their taste, they nominate someone else.
This way we can actually help each other. Instead of bashing each other over the head all the time.
Just a thought.
