Issues that concern me.
I am 27 years old, and I have been fully active for Democrats. I have voted in every election since I was 18 and it was a straight democratic ticket everytime where applicable.

However, I really have been wondering where I fit in here. Some of the ideas people have here really don't agree with mine.

For example, I believe in the constituition of the United States and all that it implies. As such I believe in jurisprudence, a right to a fair trial, legal representation, and assumption of innocence until proven guilty. I was really shocked when some people who claim to be educated patriotic americans claim that what is happening at Gitmo is a good thing. That abuse of muslim prisoners imprisoned without trials is OK, because "those people are terrorists" (and they say this without any evidence). And if we disagree with the treatment that we'll lose votes, because apparerntly the majority of americans are crying for muslim blood, at least according to their logic.

I also think that the war in Iraq is unjust and inexcusable. While I agree that a large number of troops don't want to be there, and that they are being used as pawns, I don't think "just following orders" is a valid excuse for civilians. And I don't think that just because they are from America that makes them automatically the "good guys." Now I certainly understand that this is contraversial, and that people who don't respect other peoples opinions will write it off as being "stupid" and "unamerican" and "disrespectful" and "kneejerk" and "traitor(ous)". Apparently if you disagree with these people you are not a "good, upstanding, patriotic american." But it saddens me to see such at DU.

Most of all what concerns me at DU is the idea that because "most americans aren't as liberal as (me)" that means my opinions are invalid and shouldn't be written, apparently because that might scare off swing voters.

Sir, I'm one of the original 10 percenters. I've hated Bush since and before 90% of americans thought he was doing a great job. I've hated Bush and all he stands for since disagreeing with him meant you were a "traitor" and a "terrorist." If swing voters don't like that the can kiss my big, white, liberal, patriotic ass.

This is Democratic Underground. If a person can't expound their liberal views here than they can't do it anywhere. So I'm going to keep doing it and shame on you for trying to stop me.

To tell you the truth, I don't wonder if I belong here. I know I belong here. And if you don't like that, to bad. I'm not changing. If you don't like that, you know what you can do.

Maybe I'm missing something. I can't read every thread, I'll admit.

13. No, this is a thinly veiled personal attack against you...
"Vnde ars in tine naso (canis culum in tuo naso)!"

The original post, however, was not an attack. It was a parody, true, and everything in quotation marks was written by you, so I guess it's personal in that regard.

Frankly, if you don't like what you said than maybe you shouldn't have said it.

23. And you sir, have been 'harassing' liberals on this board...
...implying many awful things about them. Why don't you try to understand us instead of making wild claims about what you 'think' we're all about?

3. Just keep doing your thing, express yourself, hit it hard and never...
ever...I mean, EVER.... waver from your convictions. What you believe is proper, honorable and just and what you hold in your heart is good enough. I respect anybody who lays it all out on the line whether I totally agree with them or not. Other will too. Now if some don't get it well, that is just too bad for them.

But your thinly veiled personal attack, coupled with the rude posts you've written about me, really shows you to be a nasty person.

8. my concerns extend way beyond just getting democrats elected
they are issues of social and economic justice and they are global.

and after watching progessive issue grind to a halt or retreat during the 8 clinton years, i know that getting another defender-of-the-status-quo corporatist dem. in the WH isn't going to get these issues addressed, not in his term or any near future term.

i'm getting cranky in my dotage. and more radical.

9. Will you go to Ft. Leavenworth for them
If you think they should get courtmarshalled and disobey their orders will you take care of their families and go to jail in their place?

10. Carlos, your logic is flawed.
You should come up with something better than that. You've been saying it over and over again, it still doesn't make sense.

That said, if I had made the mistake of going into the military I would be willing to face court martial and Leavenworth.

Now, are you willing to attend the funerals of all the babies killed in Iraq?

12. Mistake?
Why is it a mistake to serve in the military? Maybe they joined so that they could afford college?

Would you be willing to abandon your family? It does make sense. Are you going to take care of their families and go to prison for them? That's what will happen if they disobey their orders?

Again your knee-jerk hatred of the military comes out clearly here for everyone to see.

14. Carlos, fighting in Iraq is a mistake.
If they don't like doing it then it was a mistake to sign up.

17. Were they psychics
Back in 1999 and 2000, when many of them were signing up, do you think that they had the psychic intuition to predict that they would be fighting a war there? Do you think they're all Sylvia Browne?

20. Carlos, do you understand the definition of the word "mistake?"
That means if you make a decision that later turns out to be wrong, it's a mistake.

If you signed up knowing that you were going to be killing Iraqis, then it's far worse than a mistake.
