Where's the USA Today Red/Blue County Map?
I'm working on a children's political site that will feature information on all 50 states. Until I find time to thoroughly research state, I'd like to write brief introductions using some resources I can quickly pull together.

I'd like to note which states are predominantly Democratic, Republican, or too close to call. I started searching for information on "red states" and "blue states" when I found this information:

"Which brings us back to The Map, the amazing USA Today graphic that showed the 676 Al Gore counties in blue and the 2,436 George W. Bush counties in red. It was a refined version of the election-night television maps that started pundits chattering about big states vs. small states, big-city life vs. small-town values, East and West coasts vs. the Heartland."

Does anyone know if this map or something similar is still online and where I can find it?

Also, do you know of other 50-state resources that would help me get a handle on each state's political persuasion? One thing that would help is a list of governors going back several years (or decades), which each governor marked Democrat or Republican.

Thanks!

1. That was quick!
I stumbled over the map my ownself at http://www.usatoday.com/news/vote2000/cbc/map.htm I'll have to ask USA Today for permission to chop the map into 50 separate state maps that I can put on each page of my website. Unfortunately, the map isn't of the highest quality. If you're aware of a better map, please let me know. I could make one, but that would take a little time.
