"Diabetes made Janklow do it". He will walk.
Janklow's republican lawyers will "prove" that the diabetes made him do it". Note he ran the same stop sign once before.

(The manslaughter charge, which requires the prosecution to prove Janklow displayed "conscious disregard" when speeding through the stop sign, is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. )

an automobile without running stop signs.

I think that the judge's refusal to allow, as evidence, Janklow's previous driving record to be questionalbe.

This is not a question of an accidental death. If this was Janklow's first offense then I would be much more doubtful about a sentence, but being a politician and beating the rap go hand in hand.

Diabetes is a disease, but being an asshole is a choice.

4. diabettes affects your driving, bizzaro world.
Sigh the people who can get in to law because of money, meanwhile people that I know who are smart enough have a harder time getting in because they arent so well off. No I am not infering to myself!, law isnt my dream career.

8. im not diabetic and i dont have a car
i drove for the first time in over 6 months last week. (in the dark at 5 oclock in the morning). so i drove very cautiously and under the speed limit, much the the ire of plurality (my boy).

but from what ive read of other posters who have diabetes on this board, they were told by their doctors that having diabetese will not "get them off" if they have an accident and will, in fact, make things more difficult for people with diabetes.

Just today the question on cspan was whether or not diabetics should have drivers liscenses.

but they do insurance litigation. but one did work for the city in the criminal courts.

and im legally blind (correctable with glasses) so seeing clearly and driving is very important. i am concerned that eventually my sight might get bad enough were i will not be able to drive. and if its late and my contacts are dry and i dont have my glasses with me, i will have someone else drive.

i lost a contact at a swim meet in high school and had to have someone take me home (i left my car in the school lot over night).

i would equate my situation with janklows. i knew i lost a contact lense and that would severely impair my ability to see. janklow knew he didnt eat anything all day and that would severly impair his ability to control his blood sugar. but i decided that i could not drive home and guarantee my safety or the safety of others. janklow did not.

11. I didnt notice you had vision problems really
And I thought my eye problem was bad with my left, sorry about yours, sucks for both of us. Well most people in law start out at other places, the famed attorney Clarence Darrow was once a corporate lawyer and presidential candiate John Edwards was too before doing what got him fame. I agree with what youre saying, Janklow had bad judgement in his decision.

18. Some diabetic reactions
are basically seizures. The person may lose consciousness. A person then is unable to control their own motor functions purposefully, let alone a vehicle. (I know the question wasn't to me, but thought I would answer because I have experience with a related situation. I have Epilepsy and can't drive because of it. In fact, I did drive for a short period of time but missed meds once, had a seizure and a wreck. Fortunately, I just went into a ditch. After that, I look at it like drunk driving. I know there's a risk, it's irresponsible to take it. If he was aware of a medium to strong potential for such a reaction and drove anyway, I think he behaved recklessly.

7. If the defense
uses diabetes as a reason for killing someone the law goes out the window. I hope the prosecution can prove Janklow's negligence of his own disease is what happened. Any diabetic knows what procedures must be taken to keep oneself alert. I hope the jurors see right through this defense.

12. Janklow has an "Ethical Disability'
Just like Neil Bush (and George W. and George H.W. and Jeb, and Prescott, etc. etc., ad nauseum.

So please demonstrate some Compassionate Conservatism: SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP. Now.

Stop picking on on rePublicans with "ethical disabilities," and enjoy a nice slice of Plastic Turkey.

But I think he will have his license taken from him. With his record, it's a wonder he still has it.

16. You asshole! If you have diabetes, you have a responsibilty
to take your medicine and to eat regular meals. This is not a valid fucking defense.

The only thing you can say, Janklow, that will allow me to express any respect whatsoever for you, is "I fucked up. I will now accept the just punishment, and make whatever amends required by the family of the man I killed."

Pansy ass shithead. :grr:

19. Raped girl, Dead girl,
Dead man. Third times a charm. Even cats only have a limited number of lives. Fear & Influence are what this guy has going for him. The DA should have pressed for a change of venue. Most politicians are born without the "personal responsibility" gene so don't expect much there.
