4. too bad having a paper RECEIPT
is not gonna do anything for us, unless it is the legal ballot that is counted.

6. yes but,
If it prints out how we really voted, doesn't that mean the machine would have to count that vote?

7. Of course NOT... Not sure if you are a programmer or not

But you can print something out and have something else be stored in memory for final count... At the end of the day, what is in MEMORY is counted. Unless the "receipt" is the legal ballot that the voter puts in a ballot box AFTER being printed and that is counted at the end of the day, there is absolutely no guarantee that what is on the receipt is what is being recorded by the machine and counted.
In short, having a paper receipt in your hand does NOTHING. THink about it. After the election you cannot go to somebody and say: "here is my receipt, i want to see if my vote was counted right".
This is not a minor point, it's the main point of this entire debate on the "paper trail" (which is a misleading way of calling it). Does this clarify ? Thanks. -CV

8. Lou reported results of this poll yesterday at the end of his show
At that time it was 3% not in favor and 97% in favor of paper receipts. So at least there's that.

9. The issue is...there is no way to do an independant verifiable recount
At least the issue is going main stream...even if the words need to be tweeked.

Public awareness of this issue will be a major factor in correcting the situation.

I did not understand the importance until I started reading BBV here at DU.
