WASHINGTON (Variety) --- It will take more than a star-studded anti-Bush rally to keep Republicans away from Hollywood's fertile fund-raising territory, particularly with a ban against unlimited campaign soft money in full force this election cycle.
Just two days after entertainment industry liberals held a powwow aimed at convincing the Hollywood community to dig into its deep pockets to defeat President Bush (news - web sites) next year, Republicans will gather in Los Angeles to try to launch their own political recruiting camp and collect some cash along the way.
It may not attract the same kind of instant name recognition glitz and glamour as the Beat Bush crowd, but the nascent effort hopes to build on Arnold Schwarzenegger (news)'s victory and reach out to business-minded industry types.
A group of well-connected players in the Hollywood business community --- including reps from Disney, News Corp., Time Warner, Univision and Universal --- have dubbed themselves the "Entertaining Republicans," pledging to help the GOP reach out to showbiz this election season.
