Clark Campaign Response to Senator Kerry's Fondness for James Baker

Clark Campaign Communications Director Matt Bennett issued the following statement in response to Senator Kerry's comments today at the Council on Foreign Relations:

"Senator Kerry's suggestion that he might use Bush family consigliere James Baker as a special envoy to the Middle East is offensive. Baker, who was the driving force behind George W. Bush's theft of the 2000 election in the Florida recount, helped to disenfranchise thousands of voters.

We liked it better when Senator Kerry was calling Baker's Florida operation 'thuggism.' If Kerry wants a former Secretary of State who headed a recount effort in Florida, let's stay away from political thugs and go with Warren Christopher."

11. yup, they are my top two faves...

I do like Dean better because I have my own personal qualms about Clark, his policy suggestions, and some of his views. But either one would be a great president, IMO.

I'd like a Dean/Clark ticket, but I know that won't happen. I think Dean is the right man for president, but Clark definitely has the foreign policy experience and military expertise that I want in a top White House official. I would like to see Clark as a VP, doing what Cheney does: forming a lot of foreign policy and advising a President Dean about Iraq.

While Clark would do a good job as President, I think Dean is the better of the two. I just hope I can have my cake and eat it too. :D

14. Matt's a bit overthetop in his headline. Kerry is not FOND of Baker.

He's pointing out that Bush2 has failed to pursue the same peace efforts that his father pursued and Clinton after.

It's OK by me that Clark point out about Baker being a jerk, but why misrepresent what Kerry said? Why didn't Bennett go after Dean praising Bush1's foreign policy as "excellent" when it was Baker pursuing that policy? Why not be upset that Dean said Powell would be great for ANY administration?
