Gays and Baptists in the Big Easy
The scheduling gods are up to some mischief. 35,000 National Baptist Conventioneers will converge on New Orleans for a weeklong gaggle on Labor Day September 6th, the last day of the Gay Southern Decadence Festival. Bible thumping, street witnessing, cross dressing and feathered boas, all in the city that care forgot. The Baptists are contemplating inviting the Presidential Candidates to address their convention. Sounds like a movie in the making.

3. OMG!
I would pay to see this! I LOVE New Orleans anyway, but having these two groups there at the same time? Oh, please. Just sit me down in an outdoor cafe on Bourbon Street with a bag of popped corn and watch the show.

Quick story. A few years ago we had an extremely fundy mayor who moved heaven and earth and pilfered $150,000 of PUBLIC monies to host a Promise Keepers convention. Not too long after that I started working with parolees. My "entrepreneurial" students (male and female) all told me it was the best week they ever had and that the two "gentlemen's clubs" here in town were standing room only.
