CBS evening news running feature on "free speech zones"
Giving lots of coverage to those whose voices have been sequestered. They've got film of the pro-bush signs out in the open and the anti-bush signs in the back forty. The secret service saying it's only because of security concerns. Etc.

This is the first mainstream coverage of this that I've seen.

2. thanks for the post
I think it isimportant to see what they are saying on mainstream news programs.

By the way, MoveOn's ad ran on ABC right before the news - it was terrific!

4. Oh, goody!
I love it when DU'ers alert me to good stuff that's going to be on the news when I get home. (I'm on the Left Coast, and it's about 4:00 pm here.)

Yes MoveOn's ad is running here too -- but I've only seen it on MSNBC. Not sure how many channels it is on.

<snip>

(CBS) Activist Brett Bursey has made a profession out of annoying U.S. presidents for nearly 40 years, demonstrating for or against a variety of political causes.

But, as CBS News Correspondent Lee Cowan reports, while demonstrating during a presidential visit to South Carolina last year, Bursey was arrested and could now be facing up to six months in prison.

"It was the content of my sign that was the problem," says Bursey.

A U.S. Secret Service Agent told Bursey neither he nor his anti-war poster belonged on a public corner.

He was told he couldn't be anywhere but the free speech zone.

Hello, First Amendment? This is a great story. Give CBS credit

8. I think Rather is starting to strike back
They just put a blip out there that he was about to (be) retire(d). I think the intimidation tactic may backfire. If they are about to get rid of him then he has nothing to lose by letting it rip. It is never to late to tell the truth.

9. It's about time! This procedure is discrimination, plain and simple!
The SS saying for security reasons is the lamest and stupidest excuse I've heard. What, if someone wanted to do harm to bush* they couldn't just hold up a sign saying "I love shrub*!" to get closer to him? Stuuuupidddddddd!

"This is the first mainstream coverage of this that I've seen."-lstrether

....bloody time the mainstream news gets this.

Sheesh, the constitution is burning, and the S.O.B.'s just now want to talk about "first amendment zones"......

Hell in a handbasket comes to mind.

12. Free Speach Zones - what a concept - Why do I fear they will get smaller

. . Free speach Zones will be regulated to places with cameras and audio recording

. . The government realizes that it's policies are not popular,

. . and seeing as it is NOT the government FOR the people

. . it mus PROTECT itself from those do-gooders that expect decent governance

. . because the GOVERNMENT has it's own adgenda

. . and it can't have ordinary people/taxpayers interfering: - now can it??

. . silly people that think the governmnet has their best intersts at heart !!

USA today = Germany of the 30's

problem is - who will save us from the USA ??

(sigh)

It is not "security concerns". How stupid are they?
A potential threat to the Prez could just paint a sign that says, "BUSH RULES!" and they will be allowed to be in spitting distance?

20. ARE YOU JUST PLAIN STUPID,...
,...is what I am going to do my next "spam" to media *LOL* (I have been convicted as a "spammer" 'cause I send out topics of interest,...yikes,...hope someone will post my bail*LOL*). While they are twiddling the bark on human trees (e.g. Pederson, Jacko, Muhammad,...blah, blah,...) they are seriously missing the "revolutionary" protests across America!!! What is wrong with these capitalists? Hell,...if they want to elevate their ratings, they should be capturing the ever-growing "protesting" America. But, just cause they are capitalists,...does not mean they aren't STUPID (stupid is as stupid does).

Check their website. I get their daily updates via email. I have a ton of stuff about this in my mail today.

They are definitely on top of this.

for the nearly THREE YEARS that this has been going on??? It's about frickin' time that the ACLU finally took notice of this abomination.
