Let's prank-meme the lurking Freepers
Just for fun, we should try to make up three completely bullshit liberal "memes" and see if we can fool the Freepers into thinking they've eavesdropped on some really juicy top-secret Democratic gossip. We should try to make these "talking points" as absurd as possible (for example... Hillary Clinton and her veep choice Lyndon LaRouche will be drafted at the convention, Howard Dean speaking to Alec Baldwin for Surgeon General in possible cabinet, etc., etc.). This will serve two ends:

1. It will allow us to guage the level of gullibility of the average lurking Freeper, and

2. It will be funny as fuck

1. It would require co-ordination, discipline.

Two qualities we on the Left are not known for. But what the heck.

My thread suggestion:
Thread title: How we Dems can show our hate for America by supporting Lieberman.

5. These are good suggestions
I feel like we should try and think of the figures that get Freepers foaming at the mouth immediately, such as Hillary or the Dixie Chicks and then put them in some improbable scenario, like"Dixie Chicks to play at surprise wedding of Janeane Garafalo and Jacques Chirac."

6. Some things that will really freak them out...
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 12:17 AM by LoZoccolo
- anything that will put the UN in charge of something
- cashless transactions
- vaccinations

Put any of these things as a subtle part of your prank - not the middle, but just off to the side - and you'll increase the chances of them talking about how it fits in to their conspiracy theory about the New World Order.

9. Cashless transactions
Yes! That's one of my favorites. I believe if I'm not mistaken that in the New World Order we'll all have "credit chips" implanted in the palms of our hands --- do I have that right?

8. I wish someone could come up with a meme about Bush's closet "liberalism."
That would really drive them up the wall. Like infecting some of them with the irritating idea that Bush has a secret plan to name Bill Clinton co-Emporer because Clinton only killed Vince Foster on James Baker's orders. See, Foster knew that Baker was just trying to pull the wool over the right wings eyes by getting them to elect crypto-communists and Tri-lateralists posing as constipated tax-hating theocrats. Once they're in power, firmly, however, they're going to institute Poppy Bush's New World Order, which is just another name for Global communism.

10. I hate to say it
but we will never get the Freepers to believe that Bush and Clinton are in cahoots. You would sooner get them to canvass door-to-door for signatures to get domestic partnership laws passed.

11. You can get some ignoramuses to believe anything!
The truth is, there are some freepers who are so extreme that Bush looks "moderate" to them. The Mena airport myth stems from the Iran-Contra days; it's really borrowed from left-wing paranoia. There are also some spooky figures in Clinton's past--Jefferson Stevens, for example; Bob Strauss, too--who have this Zelig-like quality of crossing Dem-Rep lines. They're THE establishment. Note too that Danny Casolaro, who died while researching the Bush administration's involvement in Colombian drug trafficking and Contra gun-running (through Mena, I think) is on the Clinton "death list." Some of these nuts are ready to believe that it's all one big nasty liberal/commie plot to make them pay higher taxes.

12. Locking (Lounge material, at best)
Rules to start discussion threads in the General Discussion forum.

1. The subject line of a discussion thread must accurately reflect the actual content of the message.

2. The subject line of a discussion thread and the entire text of the message which starts the thread may not include profanity, excessive capitalization, or excessive punctuation. Inflammatory rhetoric should also be avoided.

3. If you post an article or other published content which is from a conservative source or which expresses a traditionally conservative viewpoint, you must state your opinion about the piece and/or the issues it raises.

4. If you wish to start a vanity thread (ie: a discussion thread in which the sole purpose is to share your personal opinion) you must state your opinion in a non-inflammatory manner which respects differences in opinion and facilitates actual discussion.

5. You may not start a new discussion thread in order to continue a current or recent flame war from another thread. The moderators have the authority to lock threads in order to contain flaming on a particular topic to only one thread at a time.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,
DU moderator
