Dean gets endorsement of key Iowa farm activist
MASON CITY -- Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean picked up the endorsement of a key Iowa farm activist on Friday.

Chris Petersen, of Clear Lake, the vice president of the Iowa Farmers Union, said Dean is new blood and has earned his endorsement.

"He's bringing new and younger people in," Petersen said. "That's something the Democratic Party should have been doing a long time ago."

The Iowa Farmers Union represents family farmers and ranchers on issues ranging from farm income to rural health care.

4. I love Dean's rural plans
Hopefully this endorsement will allow him to speak more on that part of his platform.

I have been worried for a long time if we ever go thru another depression, what we will do without family farms. My parents were depression babies, and my dream life is to have 2 acres of land, a big garden and livestock (chickens, beef, pigs, etc) that would support a small community. Folks in the urban areas would be screwed food wise if we had another depression.
