The Unemployment rate.
Bush was talking about the unemployment rate falling. This was on CNN this morning. Okay. He mentioned an increase in sales jobs and tax cuts to help small businesses. This may be a good thing, however, what sorts of jobs are being created? Schlocky sales jobs at Wal-Mart, or places like it? As for this, I have a Bachelor's degree and am planning on going to graduate school for my Master's. I don't want to work a sales job. Not in a store or otherwise. I think my main point is this. To win the war on unemployment one must not only be concerned about job creation but what kinds of jobs are being created. I believe I deserve better than a sales job and this country deserves better than this bullsh*t. In order to win next year our mantra needs to be "We can do better."

1. I agree with you.
The trend in this country is a downward push on wages. I believe businesses know that they can offer less and we will have to take it. I was laid off 4 months ago and yesterday I had an interview for the exact same type of position I held before and they said they could only pay me $15,000 less than what I was making and that was their high end.

If we don't start pulling together we won't have any kind of leverage in this country. One person can't stand up to the powers that be but united we can do a whole lot more.

We should all boycott stores like Wal-Mart and Vons etc that treat people like this is a third world country.

2. Agreed. Also, the rate is a joke. Much higher.
I am long-term unemployed; no longer counted (have spent all day doing my job search duties, yet again). I think the number must be more like 10%. Also, don't forget the underemployed, which also are not counted. Good luck to you.

3. it went down in november because of xmas
many businesses, especially those in retail and sales hire their extra (and almost always temporary) seasonal help in november only to either lay them off or cut back their hours significantly in late january or early february. I can't believe they are saying this is a drop in unemployment, when it will most likely rise again after the holiday season
