Poll question: Is Clark a Liberal?

Liberal internationalist means that he is a liberal but thinks more in international or 'world-wide' terms than many liberals. That's my best description, anyway :)

1. liberal internationalism does not = politically liberal.

Liberal Internationalism on the other hand dismisses power as being the most important facet of international relations. The ideas of primary importance to Liberal Internationalists are those of ‘freedom, justice and peace’, a far cry from the power struggling world of the Realists. To attain these goals it is necessary to do so through international cooperation and economic affairs, or trade. Their belief being that such trade and international ties is conducive to peace and preventative to war which would harm trade and international interests. As Zacher and Matthew point out, different Liberal Internationalist will argue upon how and how much cooperation is needed, but that some of the ways it could be achieved is through international laws or the inter-linking of international organisations.

clark is not a liberal or progressive. neither of your options illustrates this -

he is a centrist - votes republicans some years and democrats others. i find it hard to believe that liberals would vote for reagan.

he had written an amicus brief to the Supreme Court defending affirmative action. He was also on the record supporting liberal positions on lots of other issues like abortion, education, and seperation of church and state.

When he entered the race, he was not a registered democrat.

I know it eats a lot of folks up, but he's a Democrate now, and depending on which poll you read, doing pretty damn well for a Dem of such new standing. Switching from Independant to Dem in a state that requires no affiliation at all worked out well for him.

10. By your logic

I am not anything because I don't have any political experience or record. Unless you have been a mayor or something, you are not a liberal or anything either.

BTW, Clark does have a record on issues like education, childcare, and housing. When he was SACEUR and base commander, he was responsible for all of these things for the soldiers under his command and their families. He is also on record stressing the importance of these things in testimony to the house.
