Poll question: The Economy: What should the Democrats' message be ?
bush has run up the largest federal deficits in our nation's history ... more than 3 million jobs have been lost ... Democrats have every reason to attack his giveaways to the rich and his giveaways to his corporate buddies ... these are very legitimate criticisms ...

But Democrats also need to offer a clear, positive vision of how they would help Americans with basic pocketbook issues ...

Please select the answer that most closely approximates what the Democrats' most important message should be to improve economic conditions. And don't just vote; say something ...

1. I vote for the first 7!
What we need is living wage jobs. Just creating jobs is not enough.

5. i listened to DK today
it was great to hear him directly answer his "it's too expensive" critics ... he explained exactly how he planned to pay for his programs ...

kucinich is a "real deal" candidate ...

my observation about his candidacy is that if he were doing better in the polls, he would be doing better in the polls ... undoubtedly someone will take issue with this ... it's too bad he hasn't shown much traction ...

he's a real asset to the party and to the campaign ... i'm glad he's still participating ...

6. companies which outsource will be ineligible for federal contracts
They should say that companies which outsource a lot will be ineligible for federal contracts.

That would be getting tough on the issue, which is what people want.

The proposal of tax-breaks for companies which don't outsource is pointless. Many companies don't owe taxes in the first place for various reasons.

8. jobs tax credit
i haven't kept up with the tax laws for many years but they used to have a "jobs tax credit" that provided some type of economic incentive for companies that increased their payrolls ...

if you find providing tax breaks for companies that don't outsource pointless, what are your thoughts on providing some form of incentive to companies that create new jobs in the U.S. ??

9. I don't think that would be effective.
I don't think that would be effective.

Companies have a lot of other options to legally avoid taxes.

10. not sure why you wouldn't support a jobs credit
my recollection is that the program was very successful when it was done in the 70's ...

it sure makes sense to me ... if the government is willing to subsidize payroll costs and effectively lower the cost of labor, it seems only reasonable that companies will be more likely to hire more workers ...

imagine what would happen to the housing market if the feds stopped subsidizing home ownership deductions ...

while it's true that many companies, especially some very large companies, don't pay any taxes, this is not the case for most small businesses ... doing a little bit of payroll subsidizing would enable these companies to hire more workers ...
