1 Dean story, 1 Clark story
First things first. I'm a Deanie but Clark is my number 2. I'm both a Dark and a Clean guy. Anyway, I've been writing letters for Dean to Iowans and the other day I remembered, I know people in Iowa. I used to work for a guy that moved there so I find his number on the internet to call and see who he's interested in. Turns out he and his whole family are Dean backers. My buddy's even taken his kid to see Dean, etc. Now, I have to admit that a) this guy is from Maine which IS New England b) he is in the theater so the civil union stuff won't bother him c) his dad was wicked liberal. That said, my buddy is not an uber-liberal so it's still a good sign.

Next, I recently joined a local political discussion yahoogroup. I live in hardcore 'pug territory so didn't know what to expect. Anyway, someone brought up Clark's name and they laid in with the "war criminal" stuff. Talked about bombing civilians and whatnot. Now, I don't agree with this shit but I think it shows that the pugs have their talking points ready for whoever we nominate. They'll skewer any of our guys. It's what they do. Vote for who you want, not who you think the GOP doesn't want you to vote for.

Peace

2. Not to be oppositional:
oh, WTF, why not?

While certainly interesting, your information is anecdotal.

I agree that it has come down to either Dean or Clark, however, let's wait to see how some primaries come down and watch the media closely on their reactions.

Intuitively, it just seems to me that the republicans are more likely to vote for a General with a good VP than the doofus who has gotten us into a war in Iraq and all the fast-food-minimum-wage jobs you can live through. Apparently, both Dean and Clark have had some repig in their backgrounds (Clark not so far back, but he is a Clintonian friend) and I just feel them repukes will have a much easier time crossing lines for him than for Dean.

Please, Deanies, don't get really angry with me. I know nothing...it's my gut that tells me (maybe it's that pizza with everything I just ate; whatever).

3. The RW will have their knives sharpened...
and at the ready. They want *total* control, and anyone who runs against them will be a target.

That's why we need to get our strongest candidate out front, and stand behind him, *whoever* it is!

4. That argument would justify nominating Sharpton
It's empty.

We have a few candidates who would give Bush a hard time and might even have a better than 50/50 shot(Clark, Edwards, Kerry) we have a few who would require absolutly astonishing shifts in public opinion to occur in order to Beat Bush(Dean, Gephardt,) and we have a few who would win under almost no circumstance beleivable to this world(Braun, Kucinich, Sharpton)

I left Leiberman out because that would probably start a whole other argument from which group I consider him to be in

5. Bombtrack, I completely agree with your reasoning and categorization
of the candidates. That could make its own thread. Lots of food for thought and discussion.

7. Pretty good obsevation !
It reinforces my belief that Al Gore not running was a missed oppertunity we will never realize ! I believe out of all of the candidates running ,Clark stands to best chance ,appealing to the swing voters, more then any of the others running !

6. I do not think the Ones that voted for the war are going to last.
Kerry may be a Vietnam hero but that vote does not go over with Dem.

9. Clearly Clark is a war criminal
because he waged war when Clinton was President, not when Bush was.

So Stormin' Norman and Tommy "dump the Constitution" Franks are military heroes, while Clark is a bad guy.

Guess Clark didn't get enough US soldiers killed to really matter.

These are the kind of background rumors that will always circulate and never be brought out into the light, like the story about Bush and Michael Jackson.

Oh, you didn't hear that one? Well, don't say you heard it here, but...
