Clark's latest TV ad -- too subtle?
Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 12:39 PM by WillyBrandt
Very classy, but he should have just ended it with "Bush is a stupid liar, and I'm the one who can kick him out."

on edit: added question mark to title

1. I liked it
Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 12:28 PM by Frenchie4Clark
It's better to be subtle...remember all the independents that were probably kinda ok with the war, until it all started to fall apart.....also vote in primaries.

Too bad he couldn't smile at the end though.....such a good smile...

But I guess it wouldn't have been appropriate.

2. : ) Well,
maybe he's "warming" the audiemce up before he lays that on them? I'm sure if he gets the nomination, we will see those kinds of ads. I love his black and white ads...he looks GOOD in black and white. :loveya:

4. Clark will lose the DU Conspiracy Theorist Vote
It's a damn shame, too. He's also doing poorly with the American Convention of UFOlogists, the Biotrician Society, and the Cold Fusion Research Clinic.

Sorry, General. You just aren't going to win Roswell.

Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 05:26 PM by Bleachers7
SNARL. :grr: WTF do you mean he will lose the UFO crowd? You must be a Deanie. Dean doesn't care about time travel. He is not properly refined.

7. Very nicely done, but there's no eye candy to make the ad "pop"
Except of course for the women who think he's "yummy," as I've heard him described. I do wish he had included some comment which would compare him to bush**, but Clark is clearly taking the high road and I commend him for that. He seems to be presenting himself as the thinking person's candidate, and someone who takes his responsibilities seriously.

Gads, can you imagine an ad which has a split screen of him in his uniform compared to bush** in his flight suit costume? Maybe that's in the works ...

8. This is a great ad
This is what he needs to do, a closeup shot of Wes talking about what's wrong, it's going to hit home with people that already have some doubts about Bushie. Their going to get to know Wes and see that he is sincere.

9. What he says is good but a bit unfocused -- more commentary than campaign
The black suit and black background make him look disembodied which is very odd. The focus, because of the odd visual treatment is actually on his collar because it's white against all that black, and his face/head seems to recede and seem smaller because of that.

17. I thought it was fantastic.
It appeals to the sensibilities of working people, and it raises questions. It also doesn't include a photo of Clark in uniform, which I think is much needed at this time. He really needs to start presenting himself as the statesman he is.

The spot worked for me. It's a real departure from the two previous ads; it has more (dare I say it...) gravitas.

Clark has ad people that are incredible. Honestly, he seems to have the best ads of all the candidates so far. Hope they can keep doing so well.

On edit--the first two ads were awesome in terms of introducing Gen. Clark to people who may not have heard of him. The third ad works even better after you see one of the first two ads. They almost make you want to support Clark.

It would be great to say: Bush is a lying, hateful, unlearned individual, but I can live with this.

26. Great ad.
I just want to echo everybody. Clark's ad team is fantastic, they are doing terrific work. I also want to repeat an important point that Brat hit on, i.e., Clark as the thinking man's candidate. This is something I've been thinking about for a while. Dean is throwing red meat to the crowd. Some of us see that for what it is. I've always thought that Clark's supporters were generally older for this reason. Dean supporters should consider that there are a lot of voters who are not raising their voices to heard. You won't likely hear from them at all until election day. Please realize that those folks greatly outnumber you. Consider, do you appeal to those folks? Unfortunately, I don't see how Clark can avoid going down that same bombastic road himself.

The way I see it, this ad focuses us on Clark the man. It is directed as much in opposition to Dean as to Bush. He is presenting an alternative to Dean. What we see is a quiet, likeable man, whose accomplishments speak for themselves. This ad will have a very strong appeal with older voters. More thoughts later.
