Another soldier died today. Where's the outrage?
Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 04:17 PM by Liberal_Guerilla
It barely even made the news. America has already become hardened to the reality of Bush's miserable failure. It seems that each soldier that dies now is a forgotten soldier, since nothing about them is known and their death is barely reported.

How callous of a country can we be? Japan had a national day of mourning for it's two dead diplomats. Italy did the same for it's fallen soldiers. We propped up some little girl as a hero(Jessica Lynch)And abandoned her as soon as her truth contradicted the propaganda.

Tell me America! Is this how you support the troops? By forgetting and abandoning them in their time of need. Shame on the U.S., shame on the Republicans and their false patriotism, Shame on Bush and his war for votes and politics. Shame on us all for letting it happen in the first place.

Another soldier died today, does anyone give a damn? I do. Bring the troops home now, and end this illegal war for profit and politics.

1. Americans feel less loyalty to their countrymen
I personally think that there is more of a dog-eat-dog mentality here, sadly, spurred on by republicans.

so you lost your job - too bad...
so you lost your home - too bad...
so your pregnant - live with it...

There is little solidarity amongst us. What binds us is our desire to consume.

OK - I'm usually not this cynical...

5. A repug in another forum (Live Journal) said.
She is a hoard core republican and she srote that a neighbor of hers is in the National Guard and called to serve in Iraq but is scared and doesn't want to go. In her journal she wrote "tough shit, I don't feel sorry for him, he knew what he was getting into". Nice huh?

This is how these liars support the troops.

4. We are not being told the truth about fatality numbers.
Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 04:24 PM by jchild
I spoke to a friend last night. Her son is stateside for a crushed ankle he received from jumping off the top of a tanker during an artillery barrage.

He said that all the guys and gals in his unit (Marines, BTW) are pissed off because they have been told that they have lost 12 people, but no one will tell them who they are. The names have not been released, not even to the Marines who fought beside the dead.

So, what this tells me is that, if even the Marines don't know for sure who the fatalities are, then the number of dead that is being broadcast is WRONG--it's actually much higher than what we are being told.

She said that he said morale is low and lots of Marines are looking for a way out. No one he knows will reenlist.

The draft needs to be a prominent issue in the next election. because if this continues there WILL be a draft. The issue should be, how will candidate so and so clean up bshy's mess and get us the hell out of iraq?

The draft is coming if we continue down this road.

6. Oh?
Do we have soldiers fighting in a war, getting killed somewhere? <sarcasm> Amazing how they have managed to keep that stuff silenced.
:( The PARENTS and families should start calling press conferences and clue the public in.

7. I couldn't agree more.
The only problem is that the corporate media whores won't report it. That's why the dead soldiers have become forgotten soldiers. So damn sad.

10. I don't know how
the journalists sleep at night. The shit they have been complicit in, they should hang their heads in shame. They have NO integrity anymore. They must dream about Michael Jackson and Scott Peterson every night. :( They're pathetic.

16. I Do!
I do care about this. I often page through the casualties photos on CNN, it's enough to make you cry.

The cavalier attitude of the GOD BLESS THE TROOPS people makes me sick. It really shames us all.

18. Jeezus H Christ Mary!
That's breaking my heart. I am sorry that your husband is ill, I know that can be extremely difficult. And to have your stepson, his son going to Iraq is just too much on top of your troubles. What a cruel date to be sent off, I agree, fuck them and fuck the holidays.

I wish that there was some sort of Underground that we could harbor people who don't want to fight in bush's war for votes and profit.

I'm sorry, This must be horrible for you.

21. I bet you are.
I have a hard time with Corporate Christmas as it is. With a bloody war going on it makes it that much more difficult to support. I can't imagine the hardship that you are facing. Please keep us posted on the well being of your stepson and husband.

My prayers are with you, for what that's worth.

20. Welcome to Empire
The soldier class goes and fights wars while the upper-middle and rich classes play with their toys. The media, controlled by the rich, spews 99 channels of entertainment 24/7 to keep the masses quiet. If they start to get restless just lower gasoline prices temporarily or show Paris Hilton's ass-crack on TV and they will calm down again.

The 21st Century is starting to look like the 19th, but the guns are bigger and they have more powerful opiates to give the masses.

22. Soldiers are paying attention...
And their families are too. Much of the rest of the country cares little, because it "doesn't affect" them. You'll see retention rates continue to slide, slide, slide. The general public will only react to a perceived weakening of US global power, which is still in the offing.

23. you know we're in trouble...
one evening last week on ABC Nightly News--US soldiers killed in Iraq was the FOURTH story in the broadcast.

another evening last week on ABC News--Mr Jennings began the broadcast with the story "no US soldiers were killed in Iraq today!"

I'm glad that no US soldiers were killed on that day, however, I couldn't help notice the blatantly obvious attempt to "hide" the news of fatalities.

on 60 Minutes II last Wed, I cried my eyes out during the interviews with wounded US soldiers. These are people whose lives are irrevocably altered simply because they were doing their job, and they possess much more stength and ability than I.

but what are they fighting for? is it worth the pain and suffering of our people and their families (not to mention the foreign citizens)?

I am anti-war and constantly accused of not supporting US troops. This is bs. My grandfather and granduncles were all proud WWII veterans.

is the US Govt honoring the troops by sending them into a completely insecure, increasingly hostile region with no reasonable game plan and few allies? No, this is the act of an irresponsible administration.

add the fact that our "president" would never give his life for his country (George Bush is the ultimate coward) and can't manage his way out of a torn paper bag, and I would have serious difficulty respecting and trusting this commander in chief.
