i'm sworn to secrecy...
NO MORE!!!

and it feels so good!

for those who remember that now infamous (and much regretted) thread of mine back in late september talking about something big that was gonna happen in late october concerning dean that would "transform" the race, well, this was it, gore's endorsement.

why didn't it happen in october? i haven't a clue, it's anyone's guess... perhaps strategy. but my dean sources who gave me this info. (which i knew was legit) kept affirming me he'd still endorse, even after the october deadline passed. so i patiently awaited, and consequently took a breather from DU. make no mistake, though gore is endorsing PUBLICLY tomorrow, he's been in the dean camp for several months now...

back in september when i posted this, i decided i'd better take the steps to save face with my fellow DUers (whom I have much respect for), JUST IN CASE the october deadline passed with no announcement. (imagine that)... so i gave in and told one of the most trusted (and in my opinion) smartest DUers in a private phone call, eloriel. boy am i glad i did that! subsequently, i've told a few other DUers who'd asked me in pm's here.

so to those here who've said i was bush-esque (all hat and no cattle), i say to you fair enough, because the "october" part never came to fruition. but i also say to you, with this finally happening, i at least feel redeemed. :-)

oh, and last thing, i promise, no more 'i'm sworn to secrecy' threads. man oh man, do i promise!

moderators ---> please indulge me and spare this, at least for a little while... i'd gotten a ton of pm's from duers on this in the past, so i'm glad i can now finally put it to rest.

21. Well, I wasn't disparaging you (much), but I can't help thinking that if I
were to predict some 'big story' in the 'near future', I'd feel fairly safe in doing so. You may have been precisely on target, but you never gave any clues, so anything that happened since then could be seized by you as 'vindication.' Sorry, I don't buy it.

And don't imagine I'm a freeper. I ain't.

If I had the power to change Shrub into a toad, I'd do it in 2.3 nanoseconds.

but if you know and trust eloriel (a LONG TIME duer) ask her. she'll tell you i called her back then and gave her the scoop. as well, in the last month or two, i'd pm'ed a few other duers with the gore scoop who'd asked me. though i asked them not to say anything at the time.

damn, eloriel. sorry to be using you like this...lol but that early scoop didn't come without a price i guess... ;-)

30. I agree the whole thing has been pretty lame.
Next time you have a big secret you can't tell until after it does not matter please keep it to yourself. I feel like I let you waste part of my life.

At least you could be cool enough not to pretend you are special because you may or may not know something you refuse to tell us until we no longer care to hear about it.

haha, i'm not pretending i'm special in the LEAST! where in the heck do you get that?!

plain and simple, i was let in on a scoop... i was excited about it and jumped the gun on du. i shouldn't have. i realize that in retrospect. but at the same time, i had no IDEA folks would jump on it like they did... believe me, i NEVER wanted/or expected this to be that big of a deal...

this is a veritable eating crow/saving face. that and that alone.

i'm sorry i wasted part of your life, sterling. but perhaps you should get out more?

He did tell me precisely this, that Al Gore would be endorsing Dean. And now it has come to fruition. Are you going to disbelieve me too? You can, of course, but it would be a mistake -- it;'s true.

(Sometimes it IS possible to be too cynical.)

Actually (call me a dupe), but I wondered if this was your secret
Newsguyatl. In fact, I missed this post the first time around and when the news broke on the Gore endorsement, did a search on your name to see if you had returned to DU.

So, folks let's set aside the sour grapes.... All of us have had secrets we were DYING to tell but could not. The fact that newsguyatl posted a hint at something that could be positive for DEMS was reassuring to us at a time when I think many DUers needed some good news. While, I'm not personally committed to Dean, yet, (I still like Clark and on some increasingly diminishing level, Kerry), I do think the efforts by Gore to "rally the troops" a good thing.

Newsguyatl, several people here defended you when you weren't around and others were jumping to conclusions that you were just BSing us...
I hope you realize that...

54. A Question
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2003/12/09/national1316EST0611.DTL

According to this article, the decision to endorse was very recent. Even this quote/event:

"About a month ago, Gore and Dean met privately in Tennessee for about 90 minutes. In deference to Gore's penchant for secrecy, Trippi didn't mention the meeting when he met a top Gore adviser, Roy Neel, later in the day."

would post-date a 'Gore was going to endorse in September' claim.

59. Where does it say that Gore's decision was recent?
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 02:56 PM by Melinda
Trippi said he had a feeling Gore's endorsement was the big secret, but he didn't find out for sure until late Sunday night or Monday.

He said the courtship began in September 2002, when Gore gave a speech denouncing President Bush's position on Iraq. He said the address stiffened Dean's opposition, and the former Vermont governor praised Gore in conversations some time after the address.

The pair had several talks in the next 15 months, with Dean peppering Gore about foreign policy. In the last six months, they talked to each other every two weeks, mostly by phone.

About a month ago, Gore and Dean met privately in Tennessee for about 90 minutes. In deference to Gore's penchant for secrecy, Trippi didn't mention the meeting when he met a top Gore adviser, Roy Neel, later in the day.

<end>

The article says that President Gore didn't tell Dr. Dean until last Friday. How does that preclude President Gore from making his decision prior to that time?

Looks to me as if the two have been engaged for quite a long time... ;)
