Prominent Environmentalists to Barnstorm NH for Kerry

Touting Democratic candidate John Kerry’s “history of engagement that extends back to the first Earth Day in 1970,” the non-profit League of Conservation Voters today released its environmental scorecard which gives Kerry the highest lifetime ranking of all the presidential candidates.


“In my first one hundred days as president, my Administration will aim to rollback the George W. Bush assault on clean air and clean water and work to strengthen our nation’s environmental laws,” said John Kerry. “I also will work to implement a plan to make the U.S. energy independent of Middle East oil in ten years—and create 500,000 jobs by investing in renewable energy sources, such as ethanol, solar, and wind.”

The League of Conservation Voters’ Presidential Profile credits Kerry with taking “a leadership role in promoting higher fuel efficiency standards for cars and trucks, combating attempts to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and in overturning efforts to weaken the Clean Air Act.”  The report also touted Kerry’s work on international environmental initiatives including the incorporation of environmental safeguards in trade negotiations and his work on climate change.

“In his run for the presidency, Kerry has made the environment a central issue, devoting several significant forums to his plans for environmental action if elected,” the report noted.

On Wednesday December 10, Robert Kennedy, Jr., Senior Counsel at the Natural Resources Defense Council and author of The Riverkeepers, will lead a group of prominent environmentalists to New Hampshire.

Driven by Senator Kerry’s top-notch environmental record, these environmentalists are fanning out across the state to talk with environmental activists, faculty and students in Concord, Durham, Portsmouth, Keene and Dartmouth.

Joining Robert Kennedy, Jr. will be ten prominent environmentalists, including John DeVillars, former New England Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency.  “We are going all out to reach out to students, activists and others through meetings, house parties and phone calls.  We’ll do whatever it takes to let folks know that no other candidate comes close to John Kerry’s record of protecting the environment,” said John DeVillars.

fighting for Kucinich or Nader. Kerry has a good environmental record. He truly deserves their support.

That being said, all of the Democratic candidates are better on the environment than Bush*.

While applauding the visionary pioneers in the audience, he labeled the current U.S. Senate as “nearly dysfunctional” for its inability to move the nation forward in solving our environmental problems such as oil dependence, down-stream pollution, air quality, waste and global warming. Politics, he said, should be the “art of the possible,” rather than constantly trying to fix the things we’ve done wrong in the past."

I hope the media will make the effort to cover this important outreach in New Hampshire by environmentists on behalf of Kerry.

5. LOl...Kerry gave the most notable foreign policy speech in a couple years

last week and the press can't cover it. The press who was there raved, but, it seems their more numerous news network movers didn't care to give it much notice.
