San Francisco: Anybody Rooting For The Green?
Honestly I was so impressed with Camejo's perfs in the Guv debates...it was like he was the only one saying anything and then everyone else would just ignore him.

But I don't want the Dem losing in SF to hurt the Dem Prez Nom in any way....it's too risky!

11. Some Of Us Are Independent Liberals
Who approach every vote on a case-by-case basis. I don't believe in commiting myself to a straight party vote my entire life. The Dems who let me down (and I am very disappointed with Feinstein for selling out on Medicare) will not hear from me.

The exception is this prez election; GWB is so dangerous, that ABB is my motto.

However I would consider voting for a Green Party candidate, especially if they were against someone who didn't represent the Democratic values. There are lots of sell-out Dems out there that are just as bad as GOPs, and they cannot betray me and count on my vote! I don't believe in blind party alleigance.

12. Screw that, I am
I want to win in '04, but I totally support Green aims. And landing a big city mayoral office is the way to begin. The Greens may realistically aim for statewide office in Cali after that, and then comes national office. It can happen, and I hope it does.

3. Support candidates not parties.
Gonzalez is better than Newsom, I don't think anyone here could honestly disagree with this.

4. It's a non-partisan race
Gonzales "the Green" has never made his party affiliation a big deal. He's not a spoiler like that twit Camejo.

The bigger issue is keeping the DINO/Feinstein clone out of power.

6. Matt Gonzalez is "The Green" and yes, I'm rooting for him.
Funny that you mention the Dem Prez Nom -- my partner and I were just theorizing that The Big Dog is in town for Gavin because SF is a big cash cow for our party! Don't suppose that if "the green" wins that the DLC may be concerned about money do you?

Anyway, I'm a left of center Democrat who would love to see Matt Gonzalez become the next Mayor of San Francisco. Thankfully, in SF we get to choose between center and left candidates...the right is an endangered species around here (eat that Jeb)!

7. Let me get this straight - we should support a corporate hack
over a better candidate on almost every issue because he is not a Democrat. Too risky? good grief SF is viewed by most people as left wing strong hold, a green in office would have little effect on the national stage. Next go round run a progressive democrat in the election.

I too believe Matt's the better, more progressive candidate.
like someone else said it's nice to have a real choice. a centrist Democrat v.s. a former Democrat who is now Green.
Don't forget to vote for Hallinan.

15. I'm voting for the Green.
As thrilled as I am about Gore's Dean endorsement, his Newsom endorsement moves me not one whit. What can I say? I like Gonzalez better.

16. GO GREEN (in local elections only)
I am an independent who supported the good Senator John McCain in his fight against Bush in their last primary. And I supported Gore. I even support the Greens in the local elections around here.

But allowing Bush to take office is like allowing Hitler to take office in more ways than one. We can never let something so tragic happen again in this beautiful country.

Why the hell is the left so splintered? There are a serious number of Greens and Socialists on this message board and we need to stick together damnit.

It's easy to be a Republican. The cards are stacked in their favor, they usually march lock-step to the same drum, and don't require a lot of thinking.

18. unite to beat the chimp!
I have some serious disagreement with the Socialist Organization at RIT but I often go to their damn speeches because they expose Bush's lies and agree that he has to go.

Some of these people are off the deep end because they want to have massive national labor strikes and ultimately a bloodless socialist revolution.

I'd settle for a Democratic president.

20. plenty of Gonzalez supporters here
Most discussants understand that this is a municipal election, not a national one, and argue accordingly.

Most arguments that go beyond party affiliation favor Gonzalez. For example, homelessness is a big issue in San Francisco. See if you can find a copy of "Street Sheet." You'll be surprised.
