NY Post: comics curse like drunken sailors…Dean raises close to $2 million
HOWIE PALS SHOW TRUE 'BLUE' COLORS

December 9, 2003 -- Antiwar comedians raising campaign cash for Democrat Howard Dean last night blasted President Bush as a "piece of living, breathing s - - -"at an angry X-rated fund-raiser in New York.

"We have to get this piece of living, breathing s - - - out of the office," said comedian Judy Gold whose performance - like those of Janeane Garofalo and David Cross - was liberally larded with the F-word.

Aides said that Dean didn't authorize the X-rated attacks and that the Democratic front-runner found them so "offensive," he almost refused to come out and speak at the fund-raiser, one of eight New York events that raised close to $2 million yesterday.

When Dean came out after the comics, he made a vague reference to "some language that was used - I think it's wrong."

1. Frankly, I prefer them cursing like drunken sailors than
the *drunk spending our money like a drunken sailor.

3. Dean afraid of bad words?
"When Dean came out after the comics, he made a vague reference to "some language that was used - I think it's wrong.""

David and Janeane were there. Does he even know who they are? I do, and I would expect the F-bomb to fly all over. And would welcome it.

If I didn't know there was a fundraiser from other sources, I'd wonder if even that aspect of the story was true, based on their track record.

I remember reading about this event here on DU when it was scheduled/announced.
EDIT, I FOUND IT:

http://www.deanforamerica.com/site/PageServer?pagename=evite_nydec8&JServSessionIdr004=7rezqt9oj1.app196a

and by the way!

$250 per individual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Must be nice to not be holding yourself to public financing anymore! Shit, I saw David Cross perform stand-up for over an hour and it was under 20 bucks.

11. $250 per individual!
Do you realize that the Bush fundraisers cost $2,000 per individual?

Dean has raised his money in relatively small amounts from hundreds of thousands of individual voters, rather than in large amounts from a few corporations.

Oh. And I've actually twice attended fundraisers for Dean where I got to speak with him one on one. First was $250, second was double that. I'm glad I can afford it, and I intend to max out on the $2,000 I can give per election cycle to help get the man elected.

Like so many others, I have never before donated to a political campaign, and I'm giving as much as I can to Dean.

If you believe giving him money will help in the general election, I believe you are mistaken. Bush will have more media control and money than Dean could raise if he had 6 years to do it. He already has multitudes more than the other candidates. Does he really need to outspend them so much to win the nomination?

And comparing Bush fundraising dinner prices to Dean's means nothing to me. Bush is a repug.

BTW from that page:
$1,000 per individual / $2,000 VIP Reception

Do you realize that the Dean fundraisers cost $2,000 per individual?

7. I know, he's tireless, isn't he?
As a fellow Dean supporter, I think it's great, but regardless of whom you support, you have to wonder if he ever sleeps....

9. I'm not sure if Dean himself sleeps.
He goes so many places and does so many things in short periods of time that you have to wonder how he does it.

10. …
"I'd also like to say that whatever it is that Howard Dean knows, or whatever it is that he eats for breakfast every morning, if I could give it to every other Democratic office holder and would-be office holder, we would immediately become the majority in the Congress and we would have about 35 governors. I have to tell you, I think a big part of it is just producing for people, actually doing what you say you're going to do at election time."
