Joe Lieberman is better than any Republican alive

He's no Zell Miller... And I would vote for Holy Joe over John McCaine as well.

The dude has a right-wing moralistic streak, but you guys are acting like Wal-Mart voters and letting yourselves be swayed by social issues. They're not that important! What is really important is: DO I HAVE MONEY TO BUY FOOD OR PAY RENT? Joe is one of the most progressive economic Dems in the primary field, so while he may be my #9 choice overall and he would have no chance of winning, he would still have my 100% support if he were to run vs. Bush or any other Repub.

Plus, he sounds just like Willy Tanner from Alf.

And, I can imagine him dressed in a diaper on Jerry Springer. He looks like an overgrown baby and makes me laugh.

on social issues, Lieberman has one of the most liberal voting records in the Seante. He routinely gets 100% ratings from pro-choice groups and 0% ratings from anti-choice groups. He is also strong on the environment, civil rights and most domestic issues.

I only fault him for his hawkish foreign policy stand. But even then, I admire him for voting one way and then backing that vote up, not trying to dodge or explain it away.

And I agree- Lieberman is a better elected official than any repub is. He is more liberal than Chafee, who is often lionized on this site.

However, Lieberman is the only person in the primary, correct me if I'm wrong, who has said in no veiled language-- "We will raise taxes on rich people."

He's tried to censor Hollywood and the film industry, for "violence." He's gone after videogame designers, how long before he starts going after writers, artists or theatre or any other number of creative arts? I'm very sensitive on this issue and I have no room to give ground

Trust me, I've talked to him before and he's very controlling and it only takes a beginning to get us to a destructive end.

That said, he severly blurs the line of Democrat and I wish he'd change to Independant. He's not the man I'd want to run my country, but then again, I'm not going to be voting for him.

It's only a measure of how well the candidates toed a party line, not how "conservative" they really are. The system is ludicris and weights certain issues more than others, IE IWR, Medicare bill...

And Lieberman has a 100% ACLU rating because he DIDN'T VOTE!! on three of the four bills they are rating!

You can't eat principles, as someone once told me. What is it about that that people don't understand? I hate the one where people say "I could never vote for him because he voted for the war". Ok, and that Congressman/Senator is very in favor of economic policies that put people back to work even the laid off person that can't vote for him because of his war vote. They would rather have their principles than food or rent money. Go figure. That describes too many of the Dean supporters that it scares me about where people's priorities are.
