The Progressive: The Gore Endorsement
by Matthew Rothschild
http://www.commondreams.org/views03/1209-15.htm

Al Gore's endorsement of Howard Dean gives a big boost to the frontrunner and now makes him the all but prohibitive favorite to win the nomination.
<SNIP>

Aside from the horse-race implications, Gore's endorsement was noteworthy for its substance.

He called the Iraq War a "catastrophic mistake" and praised Dean for having "the insight and the courage to say the right thing" on that issue.

Gore also talked about the need to "remake the Democratic Party as a force for justice and progress and good in America."

An odd message from Gore, who used to be head of the DLC, but a welcome one nonetheless.

Yes, Gore's endorsement has more to do with the substance of his reasoning than with the prestige it offers Dean. Calling the Iraq war a "catastrophic mistake" and Dean's opposition to it as having "the insight and the courage to say the right thing" damns the Dems who voted for war, especially those who voted for it for the idiotic reason of getting the 2002 Campaign back to pocketbook issues, as well as damns the Lieberman-types who are Ariel Sharon clones.

Thank you Al Gore for calling the Iraq War what it is and standing up for all of us anti-Iraq War advocates, whether it be Howard Dean or the humblest citizen.

1. Plus, he doesn't disagree with Gen. Clark on that score, either...
It should be noted!:eyes:

I really think it's more of a "Dean-helper" than a "deal-sealer" for Dean.

B-)

3. An endorsement from the last Democratic VP is more than a boost.

I expect Dean to take command of this race if Gore campaigns with him.

5. 25% is the high and 15% is the low - That's not in command
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 02:22 PM by SahaleArm
That's called front-runner.

6. We get new members - people turned off by Bore's stunt come to us

Don't overestimate Loserman's appeal/ As someone who tried hard to get people to draft him...not quite legions of fans. Legions of disappointed people instead. Make my day, Bore. Campaign in NYC - where you didn't bother to show up in 2000 or 2001 - when the whole party rallied for Mark Green - EXCEPT YOU!!
You were not a liar in 2000 - but became one now - the serial liar. "The only candidate who opposed war?" :wtf:

7. He didn't say Dean was the only candidate that opposed the war.
He said the only MAJOR candidate. That's a true statement.
