You have one vote....nobody can take that away.....
Not any endorsement.....not any special interest group.......not any blogger or DU poster or Freeper........not any other campaign or candidacy.......

So why all this talk of an endorsement "undermining the democratic process"?

Maybe it's because I don't "support" anyone at this point other than the eventual nominee and have yet to decide who will get my primary vote. But it just seems like the whole idea of what other people say about any candidate is taking on absurd proportions. One person's endorsement for or against your candidate, or some posts by an opposing candidate's supporters on DU, or some perceived "bashing", or what some celebrity says in no way affects who you cast your vote for or how that vote is counted. Too many people are giving other people too much power and credit over something that is in the end theirs and theirs alone.

This whole thing is getting ridiculous.

P.S. And I'm not talking about general election or election 2000 or vote counting or any of that Diebold crap, which are all separate issues. I'm simply talking about the role of what other people say on and how it should or shouldn't affect how you vote or why you shouldn't care.

1. I agree.
It's certainly legitimate to express opinions about the endorsement, but Gore isn't the boogeyman. He's a Democratic Party leader and he made a choice. Agree or disagree, just don't play the victim.

2. By the same token,
supporters of long-shot candidates and causes need to stop accusing people who point out their lack of chance as "trying to take away our vote." Somebody who advocates voting for candidates who might win is not trying to take away your vote, nor is that person saying that you have no right to vote. It isn't a question of rights, it's a question of understanding politics and using a little sense. All too many high-volume extremists on DU and elsewhere resort to this "you're taking away my right to vote" accusation when they have no other answer to sensible arguments.

3. Yeah, but it's absolutely no different....
than supporters of the front runner getting just as snippy when someone says their candidate can't win against Bush.

just vote for whoever the hell you want to and stop whining to mommy whenever someone somewhere says something bad about your candidate. (Not directed at you, just a rhetorical continuation of my original post).

At bottom, the one thing is exactly the same as the other. Thanks.

7. OUr VOTES got trashed along with the Constitution on November 4, 2000...
I truly believe that it is completely irrelevent who we support or vote for, what with the bush regime in control.

8. Agree
I get a little tense with all this talk of the race being "over", or listenting to half-brain pundits and talk show entertainers saying a candidate is "unelectable" or whatever. I don't care who does or doesn't endorses my candidate; I much prefer that we ALL vote for who we believe to be the best candidate and allow the process to move forward accordingly.

9. Gore ignored history
There is a reason presidents and vice presidents stay out of campaigns. Because their voices do hold additional sway . . .especially in primary battles which are in-house elections.

Gore's voice is huge in the party. There is a reason his announcement gets national press coverage and say, the mayor of Hoboken's doesn't. He's too big to get involved until the voters sort this out on their own.
