how is the Du Sjodin story political?
Because we should change the laws regarding these types of repetitive criminals!

"The sheriff heading up the investigation of a missing North Dakota college student said Tuesday he doesn't think 22-year-old Dru Sjodin will be found alive. The sheriff also said blood found in suspect Alfonso Rodriguez's car matches Sjodin's DNA and a four-inch folding knife was found in the car." CNN.com

I must not be a good liberal 'cause I cannot forgive people who have committed this kind of crime. The evil piece of filth in custody now is what they classify as a Class 3 rapist, class 3 meaning the most at risk to re offend.

I've one question: why do they let this kind of horror out of prison to re offend? Could they not give them the choice of being CASTRATED or remaining in prison?

1. I know what you mean
I understand the laws in place to protect alleged criminals and the reasons for them. But when I see this type of crime, or people like Richard Allen Davis (who murdered Polly Klass and was totally unapologetic about it) I get that really violent urge to just go bizerk with a chainsaw on these guys!

2. Castration doesn't....
address the underlying personality disorder that leads to these crimes. Castrated men can still sexually abuse and murder.

7. Is there any actually documented evidence for this?
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 07:07 PM by scarletwoman
I've heard this argument against castrating sex criminals several times (interestingly, almost always from men... ), and it leads me to wonder if studies of this very thing have been done at some point -- or at the very least, if there is documented anecdotal evidence of castrated sex criminals continuing to commit their pre-neutering criminal acts.

I sincerely wonder about this. Male dogs, cats, horses, cattle, etc. are all castrated routinely, and one of the reasons for doing so is to render them more docile and manageable. Why would this effect not also be achieved, to some degree or another, in human males?

Furthermore, why were eunichs employed as guardians of the hareem if they were not implicitly trusted to have been quite sexually neutralized?

I do understand, of course, that there are serious underlying psychological pathologies motivating sexual predators -- yet, why wouldn't a dramatic reduction in testosterone production have at least SOME effect? I HAVE seen studies that have found a possible correlation between over-amped testosterone production and criminal behavior.

Much as I strive for compassion toward all beings, I am hard put to feel anything other than murderous rage and an atavistic desire for bloody vengeance toward rapists and child molesters. Rip their damn balls off!

8. not according to self-confessed rapists
who have testified and begged to be castrated so that they would not re-offend.

Show me proof to the contrary.

9. ok so they are begging....
but how will then know how they'd react when it's done.....
there are chemical suppressants that do the same thing,

maybe force them to take drugs at their parole office.

26. The chemical castration drugs....
basically counteract the testosterone in the system. That's the problem with chemical castration.....you can take the meds, and then take more testosterone to counteract it.

24. You're assuming that rape is about sex....
stranger-rape isn't about sex, it's about POWER. And incarcerated criminals who beg to be castrated, chemically or surgically, have a big fat motivation to have it done....to reduce their sentences or increase their chance for parole.

10. Everybody assumes testosterone is the problem
It isn't.

It's an underlying personality disorder that tends towards violence and a complete lack of empathy.

11. Yes. It's the sociopathic personality.
The lack of empathy and conscience. Occurs when the child doesn't develop a conscience as others do, at around 3-4 years of age. Demands immediate gratification, and simply does not care what has to happen in order to get it. They are skilled at faking the emotions they believe are required for the situation, but they do not actually experience the coinciding feelings.

Quite a lot of underlying rage, typically aimed at women. Castration won't fix that problem. And this is very hard to "cure", especially since there likely isn't much treatment in prison. But this particular suspect spends 23 YEARS in jail, and can't even make it six months on the outside without (likely) kidnapping and killing again. What a sick fuck.

12. you can see a lot of early warning signs
in kids....
Like cruelty to animals....

little boys who like to harm animals,
saying blowing frogs up with firecrackers,
often become violent criminals,
or president even.

14. LOL! Cruelty to animals is a warning sign.
But seriously, arson is also another early warning sign. There's one more, and I can't think of it off the top of my head. I want to say bedwetting, but I'm not certain.

Do we want to become one of the few countries on earth where physical mutilation is a state sanctioned punishment? We're one of the few with the death penalty, so maybe so...

Or maybe we should stick to imprisonment.

33. but...but...
Do we call hysterectomies mutilation? It's the female equivalent to castration in males.

I'm only trying to think of something that could possibly stop these crimes of pure horror.

Would anyone of us be comfort with a rapist living in our neighborhood? Seriously, would we?

I think, since this rapist had not killed before, that perhaps he was killing this girl simply so that she could not identify him and therefore have him sent back to prison.

4. Yes it's very frustrating
What do you do with these guys once their sentence is up? And how do you determine who's at most risk to offend? How do we keep our prison system from becoming even more of a Gulag system than it already is, and still protect the populace? Any serious suggestions?

19. Sometimes you have to err on the side of caution
protecting the populace is goal # 1.

There are many ways to determine who's at risk to re-offend. They do so all the time when the catagorize "level 3" offenders.

A few example below.

http://www.doc.state.mn.us/level3/Search.asp

http://www.metrokc.gov/sheriff/sosch.htm

http://www.douglascountysheriff.org/Sex_Offenders/level3mainbody.htm

http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/

Also if the system is a Gulag for sex offenders then I say good!

5. I believe release of such criminals. . .
violates the public's Eighth Amendment rights against cruel and unusual punishment. Why should we have a narrow interpretation of this right, assigning it only to the accused and convicted? Are we not all effected by the actions of violent criminals? And are we not all placed in danger when an unredeemed felon is released to prey on us again?

Extend the Eighth Amendment guarantees to the parole board, too. When someone has absolutely no possibility of ever being released (i.e., Manson or Sirhan), isn't it cruel to taunt them with the possibility by dragging them before a parole board? Sentence them to life and be done with it.

25. Ummmm....
if she had been armed with a handgun, don't you think she might have had a better chance of resisting an attack by an old fat guy with a 4 inch knife? Her resistance with a gun CERTAINLY couldn't have made her situation and likely demise any WORSE, could it?

PERIOD! I am so sick of woman and children being placed in jeopardy to save a f-ing buck!

Keep these likely to reoffend assholes behind bars! / Rant... :grr:
There is far tooooo much evidence that indicates these guys can't be re-habed. I for one am not willing to be a victim, nor am I willing to offer up my child to one of these bastards either. Sorry gang, but my compassion ends at the door of those who lack it.

I just watched a sick portrayal of Ted Bundy. The movie seemed to perpetuate that which Ted Bundy thrived on, "violence against women." I was disgusted that a movie about a sick man like Bundy seemed to sensationalize the very thing that fueled Ted Bundy.

http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/notorious/bundy/index_1.html

http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/predators/index.html

http://web.ukonline.co.uk/ruth.buddell/bundy.htm

My personal history is such that I know the effects that a sexual predator can have on a family, and I am not willing to risk that ANY family be placed at risk.

So there, so much for the theory that "Liberals" want these fools running loose. We DONT. Nice flame bait though ;)

Why don't we lock up these 'class 3's' for life, and say - let out all the non-violent drug offenders. You know, the ones who made a mandatory minimum sentence or two?

Just a wacky idea...
