15. Kucinich and Kerry ROCKED!

They both took it to Koppel. Also, Sharpton's closing quip about SNl ratings versus Nightline was perfect. All the guys did beautifully, at least occasionally.

Previously, Kerry as spoken in slow, high-falutin tones, but tonight he spoke quickly in a plain style which was great.

If he had this style all along, perhaps he'd be the front-runner.

except that he did not seem to follow directions by Koppel in commenting about something good about Dean. Did I misinterpret? If I heard the question corrrectly, then that's pretty rude. Anyway, he had very good answers for everything else.

I'm a very ardent Clark supporter, but Kerry gave the best performance tonight. Kerry was very eloquent and poised. Clark did well but I think he blew it on the question regarding whether security is more important or domestic policies. Kucinich made the point when he said they are related (i.e. the poor economy is being affected by the money pit in Iraq), a point I have heard Clark make several times before but did not make tonight. Dean looked a little too laid back and seemed to be coasting, maybe not willing to say anything controversial at this point now that things are going his way. Kucinich was animated, but his plan for bringing the troops home and putting the UN into Iraq is very vague and isn't very realistic (although I admire his pre-war position). Once again, the questions were terrible and weren't intended to bring out a real discussion of the issues.

We were well represented tonight. We should all be proud. Minus Joe I had at least a moment of pride regarding each and every one.

I'm pleased with my impression that Clark honestly won the debate. He did very well on all questions. Dean's point about domestic issues being important and the focus on Iraq could have shot him down, but the host pointed out that was an exaggeration. Lieberman and Kucinich's closing statements came right after Clark, and their assertion that Iraq and national security were critical played right into Clark's lap, given his victory in my eyes over the second half, the long discussion of Iraq. I couldn't see how he could respond well and stand out, be he continued to surprise me.

Kucinich also did very well. He presented his ideas clearly and made himself stand out. However, I don't think he demonstrated that his ideas were the right ideas as well as Clark did.

Dean did alright, but he wasn't in the top bracket.

Kerry handled the questions thrown at him early on very well, but other than that, I think he slid into the pack.

Lieberman seemed a little enfranchised to me, he was noticable but didn't really shine.

Gephart and Edwards didn't make a big impression on me.

Sharpton and CMB were, you know, themselves.

This was definitely his best debate.

I think he won over some people to his campaign tonight.

And he is right. 4.5 million dollars raised is no small change. Consider that near 9 million when you consider matching funds because he is being funded by the PUBLIC only.

Kucinich will catch a fire. I still think he is being short changed in polls(Greens and Independents and minor party supporters are going to back him in the caucuses/primaries and therefore he is doing a lot better than his current poll results in face of little to no media attention).

When he finishes in the Top 3 in Iowa, his campaign will really catch fire.

Dean (honestly) made a few flubs. Did not rise to expectations. Definitely seen him better.

Kerry did well. One bad answer. But strong overall.

Clark gave a couple of really excellent answers. Good overall. Excellent in the spin room afterwards - very strong there.

Kucinich did very well. Definitely the best I've seen him. I'd have to give the night to him.

The rest were about at their usual standard.

clark made what was the most important assessment of the 2004 general campaign when he pointed out that while domestic issues are important, the GOP will be attacking the eventual democratic candidate on foreign policy issues, and have already begun to do so. he then went on to articulate how he would confront the GOP on this issue.

kerry was articulate and impressive. best performance yet, and acted like a both a real person and gentleman

kucinich was very good presenting his core message about social issues, and in pointing out the attempts by the media via ted koppel to discuss process instead of substance and issues is what has given us the current state of political debate in the country.

lieberman showed a great deal of class and articulated his positions very well.

dean, as the supposed favorite did as well as all but clark and kerry, but as the front runner has to distance himself from them better.

but and this is important, this campaign will be won not by personalities, but by organization strength. and dean has such a stronger campaign organization than the others that it will be hard for anyoone to catch him. but if he stumbles, clark, and kerry might catch him.

There was some serious electricity tonight, and that was long overdue. Perhaps as certain elements try to shut down the process before it even starts, more serious issues will break forth. It was good to have Sharpton call down Gore with the Tammany Hall reference, and it was great to see people give Koppel the comeuppance he's so richly deserved for so long.

Lieberman lost because he displayed unimaginable bitterness and pettiness, and well, he's an ass.

Kucinich lost because he's either totally stupid, or totally dishonest. He spent the whole night distorting Dean's plan for Iraq exit, and supporting the unworkable "US out UN in" plan which is, well, just plain stupid.

Clark, Dean, and Mosely Braun carried the day with well worded answers.

Kerry, Gephardt, Edwards, and Sharpton were there for decoration AFAIAC.
