If you support Dean you must be bad
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 09:21 PM by dsc
That seems to be the meme of the Dean bashers. Molly Ivins endorses Dean and the woman who wrote the book on Bush and what he would do to us is painted as a naive know nothing. Gore endorses Dean and he is an evil supplanter of Democracy. I am honestly surprised people haven't rejoiced in Paul Simon's death. Thank God for small favors. Contrast that with the treatment of Eric Alterman and Gary Hart. We didn't have thread after thread after thread about how evil and or deluded these people were.

Frankly I am sick to death of this. I am sick to death of good Americans and good Democrats being torn down for the sole reason that they have dared to support Howard Dean. Gore and Ivins deserved better than this. They have done more for the cause of both democracy and Democrats than anyone on this board. If you are under the mistaken impression that this behavior makes your candidate look good you need to get real. It makes you look like petulant cry babies.

I understand being disappointed in endorsements that don't go your way. I wish Sherrod Brown would have supported Dean. I wish Ted Kennedy would have supported Dean. I wish Gary Hart would have supported Dean. But I don't hate them. I don't think that all they did for this country is not worthless. I don't think they are deluded, subverters of democracy. I will support them in the future. If Brown runs statewide I will gladly vote for him and work for him. I think he is wrong on this race and that is all. We should not eat our own. Our statesmen and our voices deserve better than this. Dean is not the anti Christ and supporting him is not a sign of the apocalypse. It is possible for good, decent, honorable people to actually disagree with Dean bashers on who should be and can be elected President. Just like good, decent, honorable people can disagree with me on that score. What good, decent, honorable people really should be able to agree on is that people like Simon, Ivins, and Gore are good, honorable, and decent people.

15. If you DON'T support Dean, you must be bad: that is too often the message
here.

Please, try to be objective for a couple of seconds. Have you noticed how people who support people other than Dean, are immediately attacked as freepers, Republicans - you know the knee-jerk reactions.

A little perspective: about 80% of Democrats are NOT supporting Howard Dean at this time.

Why can't we go through the process - the primaries, the caucuses - AND RESPECT EVERYONE'S OPINIONS.

28. a little more perspective
A little perspective: about 80% of Democrats are NOT supporting Howard Dean at this time.

a little more perspective: an even larger percentage of democrats are NOT supporting Clark, Edwards, Gephardt, or any of the others.

2. Amen!
Well put and I agree. It's a lot of sour grapes, in my opinion (like with the endorsement).

3. Yeah, I didn't start threads to diss all those People
who didn't endorse Dean! They are still okay People in my book. Isn't that what Democracy is really all about? All of us having our own choices? :) And don't forget Paul Newman and Janeane Garofalo are "good, honorable, and decent people".

But seriously, you are 100% right on. It's damn near psychotic, the length some of these Dean haters will go against this guy. I don't think I've ever seen such an interparty hatefest before.

7. God as my witness, for the umpteenth time
Dean is my second choice. I like him, I respect him and I endorse his record. I also like Al Gore. I only dislike the Dean supporters who are openly rude to Clark supporters. I also still adore Molly Ivins. You are not hated by all Clark supporters.

10. That is why the words Clark and Kerry
don't appear in my post. I don't equate supporting Kerry or Clark with bashing Dean no matter how many people on this board seem to do that. I do realize there are many supporters of Kerry and Clark who don't engage in this nonsense.

23. Also, my thanks
I hate having to having to defend myself to Dean supporters when I'm one too-if my first choice loses. I know that some Clark supporters can be asses, but that is true of suppoters of every candidate.

Thanks for realizing that most of us have the same goal in mind.

I agree 100%. I'm not currently supporting anyone, but we should let people be at peace with their decisions, not marginalize them if they don't agree with ours.

11. Thank you so much!!!
I've been saying this all day. I could not have said it better. You don't just turn on someone or something just b/c you have a bump in the road. That tells me you never really truly believed in our cause b/c if you did you wouldn't just jump ship in a second. How about after one of the first civil rights march everydoby said that MLK doesn't know what he's doing and he's going to get us killed. So I'm gonna vote for a white racist gov or senator. Think about it!!

12. I support Dean and am pleased to have Al Gore's endorsement
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 09:35 PM by MODemocrat
It's disappointing when you support a different candidate, to see someone of Al Gore's magnitude endorse Howard Dean. However, that is his absolute right to do so. It does not mean that Dean will get the nomination, so you others will have your spirits uplifted as time goes on and your candidates are endorsed.
It's hard for me to understand why the candidates have to be bashed in the first place. They're doing the best job they can do, and personally, I'd like to see all of them in the new Democratic administration. :pals:

13. Oh, please
The self-pity and outright hypocrisy.

Dean supporters regularly accuse anyone who criticises him of being some sort of rethug disruptor. Dean himself set the tone at the start by constantly attacking his opponents and calling them sellouts and roaches, which made the Deaniacs swoon at his "anger".

Now, it's "Dean is the frontrunner and annointed one, why doesn't everybody love us?"

Dean is not all that great a candidate but that fact has zero impact on any supporter being bad.

Its like saying that because you like blue shirts that you are bad.

29. Thanks for posting this topic!
I was thinking this very thing while in my car on my way home. I was listening to Koppell ask each of the candidates about Gore's endorsement. I think making the endorsement the big opening issue was wrong, and was intended to be divisive. But I do think that if the other candidates were being honest, they would admit they would welcome endorsements from Gore, Ivins, etc.

I would be very disappointed if Ivins, Simon, and Gore endorsed someone else, but I don't think I'd be bad-mouthing any of them the way I have seen it here and on other candidates' sites. I think I'd just curse under my breath and wait for the cheering to blow over.

26. Thank you for speaking for the rest of us.
I have been an admirer of Molly Ivins for over a decade. I certainly pay more attention to what she has to say than any DU basher who has to label us Deanies and then descend into their Coulteresque diatribe about how big of a bunch of losers we are for supporting him.
