This has been concerning me for some time
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 09:42 PM by La_Serpiente
In the ex-Soviet Satilitte state of Moldova, numerous Dirty Bombs were stolen. Now, sometimes people look at this in the paper and just skip over it. However, this set off alarm bells in my head. What if Al Qaeda took the bombs? They could go to Afghanistan or Iraq.

Democrats & some Republicans have been raising the point that America should be buying back Nuclear Weapons from Russia, Central Asian states, and Eastern European states for some time now. I guess I am just worried about the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Here is the story

3. Truth Is
people could be setting off dirty bombs all the time and we would not necessarily know. After the anthrax scare, several elected officials from both sides of the aisle said the public should not be told of things they "can't do anything about". It is not regular protocol to sweep a bomb blast site for radioactivity unless there is "cause to believe" it might be a dirty bomb. Since radioactivity is invisible and symptoms do not show up sometimes for years, it makes me wonder what would cause them to check. Not to mention the cost of clean up is far more inhibitive than covering up the incident. Our soldiers are being exposed through negligence and US munitions containing depleted uranium anyway. A dirty bomb would only draw attention to this matter, so you can be sure we will never know if one goes off in the combat zone.

After Chernobyl, the most popular kitchen gadget in Europe was the hand held geiger counter for waving over milk and produce at the grocery store. It was quite useful. Wonder what would happen if I walked around the block checking the hood right now with one.

I find peace of mind believing that it is a wonder we are alive at all. Must be all the hormones in the beef.
