My Wild Fantasy About John McCain

Sen. McCain intrigues me. He votes his conscience against the GOP fray a lot of times, and you KNOW he's GOTTA be pissed at GWB!

I think he could probably blow off the fact that GWB's campaign smeared him big time during the 2000 primaries and that he undermines any serious effort at campaign finance reform for obvious, and evil, reasons.

So OK he could go with that. But now he's watching the "post war" get so fucked up. He's relating to the guys out there. GWB hopping the fundraisers, sending form letters to the families of the dead soldiers, and now, plotting a "victory" right before the election.

Tell me DU-ers...is it conceivable that even though the guy's a GOP and a politician, that it will all eat away at him enough for him to not support Bush next year and would that not be HUGE?

I just don't see him doing that, he's always been such the "good soldier." But it would be awesome if it happened.

Having been a POW and everything...to see Mr. AWOL and Rummy, how can he stand it? I know he will probably suck it up but I gotta tell you -- I think we are in for a wild ride here.

It's a wild fantasy! But do you see ANY GOP Senator or Congressman breaking ranks? Not only Iraq the but spending, the special interests....and just...God I'll bet a lot of them hate the GWB crew as much as we do!

He'd be finished in the Republican Party and would have to become an Independent. He would become useless in Congress without any supporters or friends, otherwise. "It takes a village."

or a credible conservative independent ran...no doubt, Bush would lose a lot of Republican votes.

Bipartisan tickets have been proposed in the past, and maybe we'll get one next year. Wouldn't that be something?

But which 3rd Party?

Reform Party?

What if the Bull Moose Party were to revive? McCain could lead a Teddy Roosevelt-like revolt, and start a new Conservative/Progressive movement.

The worst that could happen would be that he would win the GE.

....is for him to jump the GOP ship and start dissing bush/cheney for their lack of vietnam-era service.and wind up on the dem ticket.

14. That would be fantastic

You know he doesn't like Bush... and not even just for his dirty primary tricks but for the mishandling of Iraq and for his out of this world deficit. McCain was quoted as saying that Congress and Bush are spending money like "drunken sailors."

However, with that said, even if in his heart McCain wanted Bush to lose, he would never publicly support the Dem. candidate. It just would never happen, unfortunately.

Imagine him running as a 3rd party candidate in 04. He would do for our candidate what Perot did for Clinton...
(I'm new to this, but I'm assuming conventional wisdom is that Perot handed Clinton the election)
