5. They may think Dean will energize their base, but they're wrong

if they think what energizes their base will prevent people with misgivings about the war, fears about the deficit and the economy, anxiety about the insecurity bred by arrogant unilateralism, etc., from kicking their pathetic asses out of power in 2004. If it comes down to gay marriage vs. endless war, which do you think people will opt for? I don't know, myself, but I don't think it's an open-and-shut case, and the Bushists would be fools to fall into believing it.

One other thing to consider: if the Repubs are so eager to mix it up with Dean, why are they so persistently "warning" Dems not to run him?

You know what? I'm giving to him. Here's the funny thing. Jerk supporters of other candidates have their "x-files" theories about what the republicans are doing in Dean's campaign. Meanwhile, I'm spending my time TALKING to people who are donating more than they can afford. People who, just like me, have made a special effort to get involved.

Yeah, maybe some republicans are giving him money. But I've given more than a couple hundred and I can personally account for several thousands of dollars from my own area. I know who's donating, and I know enough to believe that your "X-files" suspicions are just a product of your inability to grasp the fact that Dean has inspired us. It's fine. Believe what you want. No one is making you subscribe to a VALID perspective.
