Dean Campaign Revisits Civil War in South Carolina......
That'll get him some press down south...that's for sure....

Another screw-up, what the hell is going on with this guy anyway?

http://wyethwire.blogspot.com/

"12.8.2003
JACKSON INVOKES FORT SUMTER IN DEAN ENDORSEMENT: I have exams, so I wasn't at the Dean event in South Carolina over the weekend. Although a few things stuck me from the media reports.

At an event meant to showcase Dean's willingness to compete for African American voters in South Carolina, only 5 percent of the crowd was African American.

Also, somebody didn't give Rep. Jackson the memo that "We don't talk about the Civil War in the Dean campaign any more."

In his endorsement speech, Jackson talked about South Carolina's role in the Civil War to stir support for Dean's campaign.

Jackson recalled efforts made to resupply Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor on the eve of the Civil War. Secessionists saw firing on the fort as an opportunity to draw blood and force other states to stop procrastinating and make secession decisions, Jackson said.

Now, 143 years later, "South Carolinians must strike a decisive blow to put America back to work" and must deliver "the long overdue supplies to the American people," Jackson said.

What the hell does this mean? Are Dean voters supposed to fire the first shot of the campaign? Is it a good idea to compare Dean with fire-eating seccessionists? Is Dean Edmund Ruffin? Does that make George W Bush Lincoln? For a campaign that stepped in it with oddball Confederate metaphors, why even hint at Civil War comparisons?"

AND TO TOP IT OFF THIS....I GUESS HE REALLY IS GOING AFTER THOSE GUYS WITH FLAGS IN THEIR PICKUP TRUCKS.....

"After Dean's speech, he called people to come forward to register to vote. Those who came forward included a man wearing a coat decorated with a Confederate flag."

1. It's Called "Co-Opting"
Methinks Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr., is entitled to his remarks. Wouldn't you agree?

2. If it was said in support of Dean, there MUST be something wrong with it
There was a huge contingent of my friends at that speech. Drove from central NC to see it. They were moved by Jackson's words. From what I've been told, it went over magically.

Oh well, what isn't a red flag these days?

3. Let's See How Absurd We Can Get
Pretty soon somebody will be all over the Dean campaign for serving Roman Meal bread with their sandwiches, since the Romans were corrupt, imperialist conquerors.

Geesh.

4. After the Civil War

some poor whites joined African Americans at the polls to elect progressive politicians.

Then the "white power structure" used physical and economic intimidation as well as voter fraud to change voter registration.

They took the vote away from African Americans through "literacy tests." (I had to take a literacy test when I registered to vote.)

They took the vote from many poor whites through the poll tax (the poor whites couldn't afford to pay to vote).

The poor whites learned their lesson. Stick with the rich white powerful men and they would be entitled to a place higher than that of African Americans.

Now Dean is sending out a strong message. Vote for me, and no matter what your color, you will be better off economically.

I think Rove is shaking in his boots that Dean's "southern strategy" might work.

On edit: One of my ancestors used economic intimidation to get African Americans who worked for him not to register to vote.

5. About That 5%...
At an event meant to showcase Dean's willingness to compete for African American voters in South Carolina, only 5 percent of the crowd was African American.

So we're counting black faces at Dean events now? Gee, that's not racist.

Here are some more black faces to count if you want:
