AARP - nasty letters coming in.

My husband who worked for Citigroup for over 18 years was laid-off. Since then he has a temporary job with NY Life which owns AARP. Anyhow, he processes claims etc., and he told me today that there is a slew of nasty, nasty letters coming in from people who are outraged with the AARP. My husband said he would xerox some of these letters, so I will let you know how bad it really is.

They sent me an application for joining today. I returned it with a few suggestions for where they could file it - in their postage paid envelope, of course.

Edwards was walking with Paul and Tucker on Crossfire today to the 'bus'for his inteview in NH. They shot the Medicare thing at him and asked if it would be a thing in '04 (For Christ's sake it's THE thing that could bring all the seniors over to the Dem side---how goddamn deadhead are our candidates). He kinda brushed it off and said "it depends on what the people find out about it between now and '04"!!!!!! Jesus H Christ, MORONS....it's up to these Dem candidates to educate them. And I have the sinking feeling that whomever wins this thing is going to be so goddamn stupid as to not make the effort. That's the election in so many of those states they are worried about. Either wise up or don't piss about why we got defeated AGAIN!!!!!!

4. you're right, but part of the problem is the debate format

They get one-minute each to speak, and the biggest topic is Iraq, and that doesn't offer much chance to discuss Medicare.

And no matter what they said, it was only shown on C-Span, with highlights on "Nightline."

5. AARP sold out Medicare - says it will sell out Social Security -

they said the are in favor of partial privatization which are the code words for Social Security cut backs so that the rich need never pay back the Social Security payroll tax surplus Bush gave them via the Bush FIT tax cuts for the rich/

Why is anyone still with them? For a 10% discount you can usually talk your way into without an AARP card?

7. I called to protest...demanded a refund...and cancelled my membership

and...I got the refund check for the full 3 years the other day.

job. Neither of us ever joined AARP and they still sent us their newsletters etc.

But they do have a long term contract to provide insurance through AARP..

8. I got a renewal card from them. I sent it back and ...

wrote on the card what to do with it and to take my name off their list. I also told them that I had joined RetiredAmericans.com.

Turned out they never joined. They've been wise to AARP for a while.
