Candidate bashing and DU...A possible solution
The flamewars about candidates and their supporters has gotten extremely nasty the last few days. I think all of the various candidate's supporters are angry, think they are correct, think they should support their candidate with equal attacks. I propose a truce and a different idea.

Let's all try to stop DU members who support our own candidate from attacking others. Just post below that it is not helpful to inflame the discussion. Coming from a supporter, it will have a much bigger impact. We need to look beyond our own candidate and try to stop the candidate wars.

IMHO, of course.

2. Here's an idea
We set up a seperate forum JUST for that purpose until the primaries are over. Put the fiercest animals in a cage and let them fight it out.

3. Well, it might work
Who gets to choose the caged ones?

I thought it was a good idea. Oh, well.

6. I liked it Cally, but it was too grown up of a solution
for the sandbox crowd here.

8. Look, the separate forums are happening already:
Clark supporters put Dean people on their ignore list, and vice versa... So, de facto, we are gonna have independent thrads...

4. How about...
we just not attack each other or the candidates period? We need to be more adult about this.

5. cally, that is the best approach. AWESOME POST.
I agree--call off the attack dogs that support your candidate. Do it yourself. Or PM them and ask nicely.

as for me, i still havent decided but someone like you makes a fine case for your candidate simply by showing that you are a reasonable intelligent serious person who has decided on a candidate in a similar manner.

peace out, yo!

7. Thanks, but I think all of us need to back a candidate
because of who they are and not the supporters. All of our candidates are wonderful. I have a huge preference, but I respect all the candidates.

now I'm not saying any of this is happening here, nor am I calling anyone out, but I thought this item might deserve a re-posting, if only to increase awareness:

12. I have done this on occasion
And there are thoughtful people who support all the candidates who I've seen do the same. It's very, very difficult not to respond to some of the shit, though, and I often lapse right into it with the rest of them. Also, keep in mind the point made by kennethken(?) in this thread.

14. Very Much For This
I'm an enthusiastic Dean supporter, and I absolutely refuse to say anything negative about another candidate--and I have practiced this even before the Doctor became the focus of the campaign. I'm a Democrat, pure and simple. I love Dennis Kucinich, I think Clark is fantastic, I appreciate Gep's work for labor, I admire John Kerry tremendously, I would love to see John Edwards as attorney general of the U.S.

I want the White House back so bad I can taste it, and I want the House and Senate, too.

I have three kids.

Anyone who helps turn around this country is my friend. Anyone who helps in anyway to keep Bush, Inc. in power is not.

15. Please start a thread with this
We have to be all on the same side. Yes, we have different first picks, but we have to be supportive.

16. Some people are gonna
attack no matter how much positive we put on it. I started a thread today on how great the debate was last night, being fair to every candidate, but that's not what some want.

I for one like to see the glass as half full. I hate the fighting and attacking. However, some people just thrive on it. I honestly try not bite to those threads. Maybe that too could be a solution.

Debate is good--attacking is counterproductive.

19. Do not agree.
Bashing is one thing... making fun of looks, electability memes, misrepresentation of policy or actions and such.

But VALID criticism is ESSENTIAL. When a candidates own actions and words cannot be held against him/her, who does that benefit?

I think it's vital to discuss candidates positives and negatives.

Not everyone has access to as much information as others and when there is a valid concern it must be expressed.
