Dean leads in ...........TEXAS!!
I knew the Dean supporters in Texas have been growing like crazy and working like demons for months but this is AMAZING! MOE or no MOE!

New Poll: Dean in the lead in Texas.

Howard Dean- 16
Clark- 14
Lieberman- 14

Conducted by the Scripps Research Center, the poll randomly surveyed 1,000 Texans between Nov. 14 and Dec. 6; 38 percent of the respondents said they are Republicans, 25 percent said they are Democrats and 23 percent identified themselves as independents. The remainder did not give a party affiliation

The margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points and was slightly larger for subgroups.

The new poll placed President Bush's job approval rating at 58 percent, down from 71 percent in the spring and 65 percent in the summer.

She has been afraid for two years to open her liberal mouth, now it is not so bad. She says she has just been seeing this lately. Dean has great support in Dallas/Plano/Ft. Worth.

Wow, we probably wont win Texas, but if that drops to at least four more points, he's gonna be in trouble.

34. That is the best part
The fact that Shrub only has 58% approval here says a lot about next year's race and our chances. It's a very good poll for Dems in general. Even though we won't win Texas next year, wouldn't it be great to be within 10 points?!!

37. This is where grassroots efforts really pay off
Small groups can effectively guerilla campaign in Texas. We can make it a less secure state for Bush and make him waste time and money there.

Fundamentally, we need to take Texas.

40. Exactly!
We won't win next year, but God it would be nice to keep him under 55%! And if we do, just imagine what a blowout the election could be for Dems nationwide! And Texas will be trending Dem within the next decade- demographics are definitely in our favor. We just need to be able to last through the next few years.

57. I think there is no chance Bush will need to spend money here
Gore didn't need to spend money in California in 2000 (not even his home turf) and Bush won't need to spend money in Texas in 2004.

This state is too far gone, not even counting in the home-field advantage Bush has.

58. Why do you say that?
Not that I think we can win, but we can certainly improve on 2000. Shrub only got 59% of the vote in 2000- when the economy was considered good and Texas unemployment figures were very low. That's not the case right now, and things don't look like they'll be improving in the near future. And Texas Dems are more energized than we have been in a decade.

Again, I don't think we can win 2004, but the state isn't *that* far gone. I'm not trying to lecture you Peter, but we've got to have a better attitude about things! :-) Keeping Shrub below 55% in his "home" state as an incumbent seeking (re)election WOULD be a victory as far as I'm concerned!

23. Dems won't win Texas
That much is certain. Our nominee could win nationally in a huge landslide, but Texas will go to Bush. After all, the GOP runs the entire state apparatus these days and it is Bush's "home" base.

One thing I don't understand about this poll is if they counted GOP respondents' choices for the Dem nominee.

14. Actually, Lieberman's numbers are about name recognition
more than anything else. That's because they associate him with Gore. Those who don't like Bush but aren't really paying attention are more likely to auutomatically lean towards Dean just because Gore has endorsed him. I think this type of situation is the main area that Gore's endorsement is going to really help Dean in any significant way. Of course there are the devout Gore loyalists who will probably fall in line behind Dean for that reason as well. I'm sure Clark will get some of those votes, but predicting that he'll get most of them is really not too wise.

Just ask anyone about the redistricting of Austin, the most liberal town in Texas. It is split down the middle and grouped with 2 conservative counties. That is right, all of those democratic votes, that used to be in their own district, will now loose to the majority of the conservative counties. Plenty are pissed! As they should be. What makes me mad is that because the repubs are totally made up of liars and cheats, they cheer when someone thinks of a good way to lie and cheat and not get caught. Don't believe me, who used to cheat of you in high school.

YAY Dean and YAY Clark

Edited on Thu Dec-11-03 02:17 AM by Melodybe
Saying that everyone else should drop out just causes arguements. It makes people feel like their candidate is being attacked and then they only respond with more hate and venom. While I am a Dean supporter as well, I like both almost equally, and want a Dean/Clark ticket more than anything else. We have the mainstream media that is already flaming the fire of a Gore/Clinton show down, that as far as I can tell doesn't seem to exist. I will not attack any supporter of the democratic candidates, I only attack those that say they won't vote for the nominee.

Why would you try to rub it in someone's face? I mean he isn't towering over any of the candidates. Two points is enough to be in the lead right now, but unless they like the nominee enough to vote for him/her (Dean/Clark/Kucinich/Kerry whoever) then you are doing nothing but hurting us all. We all have to vote democrat in '04 that is all that matters.

George Walker Bush is a product of New England- his pedigree, his early years, his schooling from Andover to Yale/Harvard. He hardly stayed in Texas unless and until it was to avoid service in Vietnam, make money off of his family's oil business friends, and run for political office.

I've pointed this out to several of my Texas repub friends, since that would not be allowed for anyone else. Hell, my family is barely considered Texan, and we've been here for 4 generations. :-)
