AUSTIN -- The day before a federal trial, Democrats on Wednesday released memos they say show that U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay drove the Legislature to adopt a Republican congressional redistricting plan without any interest in protecting minority voting rights.

"I'm embarrassed that the Legislature here in Texas would be so easily manipulated by somebody like Tom DeLay," said state Rep. Richard Raymond, D-Laredo.

2. No, the Dem.s sued over unfair redistricting
claiming the new districts violate the voting rights act - designed to protect minority voters - the ole 1 man 1 vote concept. There are a lot of reasons the new districts aren't fair, but this issue seemed most winnable.

3. "most winnable"
A second team should file based on the second-most winnable, and a third on the third-most, etc.

Its not trivial because it concerns fundamental Constitutional issues. And depending on venue, you never know. History at least should show heroic battle when the stakes are the Constitution and the republic.
