1. For me it's his commitment to progressive IDEAS and ideals.
He really believes in applying progressive ideas to the nation's problems and the world's problems. It's a lifelong commitment that you just don't acquire during an election year.

The fact that he has the speaking ability and stature is just an added bonus.

4. It's ironic how the Deanies measure everything in money raised
If it comes down to money the RepuKKKes will always win.

3. With Kerry as President, I would feel optimistic about the future...
of our country and the prospects for a better world. This is not a small thing with me.

5. yup, I'm a pretty big Kerry fan
big Kucinich fan. Edwards.

I will say this, Kerry is the obvious choice, however he's hit such a snag in his campaign, I'm not sure how to take him anymore.

9. Money is important
But what matters in the end is the voting public. It could very well turn out that the person who raises the most money does not get the nomination.

10. Despite his campaign
Yes, Kerry would make a terrific president. He has courage, intelligence and integrity. He seems trustworthy, too.

13. I love John Kerry
some of his supporters (and I'm sure the feeling is mutual) leave a little to be desired.

For me, I feel a much stronger connection to Dean, whom I believe to be a much stronger candidate. I also get a sense of entitlement from Kerry - and no matter how much he may deserve to be President, that sense of entitlement drives me away.

14. Good, but not the best...
And Kerry's supporters or John Kerry himself have yet to be able to answer why he is so inept at campaigning.

Half of his support gone in New Hampshire...half gone nationally in at least one poll.

If he does turn it around, it will be incredible, but there is reason for serious, serious doubt about his ability to run a national campaign.

15. He is not
my first choice but I would be very happy to vote for him. No question he would make an outstanding president and if DK was not around he would be my first choice.

16. Best? No.
Even though I favor Dean, in terms of stature, ideas, and temperment, I would go with Clark.

Kerry would make an excellent president. But I don't think he's the best.

17. No, but really, really close
Stature: okay, he's the tallest, but that wasn't what you meant. You're right on this one, hell, he was born into the diplomatic corps, for christ's sake, and that's no dismissal. He's been immersed in foreign policy all his life, and he has more "quality" experience in government than any of the rest of them, period. I'm not sure if he's been an office holder longer than Lieberman or Gephardt, but his voting record is absolutely unimpeachable, and he has a jaw-dropping track record. I give you this one.

Ideas: Sorry, but I think Edwards' plans are more detailed and more to the needs of this country at the moment. If you look into the details of what Edwards is proposing, it's very logical, fair and achievable, and uses the essential mechanisms of the country to right itself.

Temperament: I'll still go for Edwards, but, like the last note, it's a very good point you raise. Kerry is stentorian, impeccably moral and avuncularly reassuring, things that people want and need from their Presidents, and something the world needs to see as an offer of an olive branch after the vicious greed of the current administration. Edwards is warm, engaging and confident; he SEEMS more approachable and flexible, and that is what wins elections. No aspersions are to be cast toward Kerry with this, and I think he'd be a wonderful frontman for the operation (America, that is) and a true statesman and creator of policy, but my gut and heart are speaking on this, and my mind agrees.

Kerry is my second choice, and he's been cruelly mistreated by the process and a certain individual, but this is how this all sorts out for me.

Great post, though; it's important to step back and not go on some midnight special shopping frenzy like so many seem to be doing.
