1. It needs to be a DOUBLE paper trail.
The machine should print out TWO ballots - one for your verification, and one to be counted by a scanner. Printing out a paper for the voter, then transmitting the ballot electronically still leaves it open to hacking. There is no guarantee that what is on the paper is what is going to be recorded at the end.

2. You only need one
to verify before dropping in the ballot box. Printing duplicates could lead to double voting.

3. Ever use a credit card?
One white copy for your records, one yellow copy for the ballot box. There needs to be a way to verify one's vote after the fact.

7. You verify
Edited on Thu Dec-11-03 02:29 PM by DinkyDem
by looking at the damn receipt it spits out before dropping it in the ballot box.

Do you really trust the rich Republicans in their country club homes not to just put 2 rolls of yellow paper in the machine?
No one's going to be checking their voting machines in their gated communities!

What would you need to keep a receipt showing who you voted for anyways?

And you know... we don't need to be generating twice as much garbage during elections.
We already generate enough... just look at congress.

4. A Constitutional Amendment
to require a paper trail of votes. I suggest this only to flush the charlatans out of hiding. Who would oppose such a move? Conservatives who can only win elections by chicanery? Lets force their hand.

5. This link will only help you contact your Representative
Be sure to contact your Senators as well, since Bob Graham just introduced the Senate Bill two days ago.

6. Where's Daschle on this?
Didn't we used to have leadership in the Dem party, besides the candidates for office? Tom Daschle is an unmitigated disaster.
