"Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War" -- Got your copy yet?
The MoveOn.org national night of house parties to screen this new documentary was last Sunday, but that doesn't mean it is too late to see this film yourself or to get your friends and family and others to see it.

You can order copies of the film (and learn more about it) at this link: http://www.truthuncovered.com/

I just ordered a few copies, which I will distribute to family members out of state (Christmas stocking stuffers, perhaps). Once we get them, we will keep one for ourselves, and host our own house party screening, inviting friends of ours who were unable to attend the parties last Sunday for one reason or another. We'll also encourage those we send the film to to do the same.

To me, this sounds like a great way to help spread awareness of the lies and deceit of the Bush regime. I'm hoping many others here will do the same, and help get the word out to those who may not be as keenly conscious of the current political situation as us Evil DUers.

Here's an article from Salon magazine that describes the MoveOn event from last Sunday for those of you who missed it: http://salon.com/news/feature/2003/12/09/uncovered/index_np.html

So what do you say? Is this a good idea? Do you have additional ideas on how to get the word out to the general public?

Thanks!
Peter

10. I sure hope so
My only concern about the presentation is that maybe it is simply too much information to process in an hour.

But I think that's how the house parties can help, as you can have discussions afterwards, to try to more fully comprehend all the deception that has been thrown at us by the Bushies.

3. I ordered my copy yesterday.
I wanted to go see it Sunday at a local theater, but I was still coughing & sneezing and I didn't want to ruin it for everyone else. Some friends went & they said it was great.

12. Great!
Do you know how many people showed up for the showing at that theater?

Until I read the Salon article today, I hadn't even realized there had been screenings in theaters. I saw it at a house party Sunday, but there were definitely enough people there to merit a theater showing. I'd guess we had 70 to 80 or so.

13. Absolutely
I think it can be very hard for people to believe the extent of the deception when just told about it. With this film, they get to actually see it for themselves, straight from the mouths of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, Rice, etc. I think it could have a profound effect upon anyone with an open mind.

6. I sent a copy to my normally Republican mother
along with a carefully worded letter to watch it with an open mind. I have to admit, I'm excited and terrified to find out how she reacts.

8. Let us know what she thinks of it
Quite curious to see if Republicans can learn anything from this film.

Thanks,
Peter

9. Thanks for the reminder!
I guess my Christmas shopping isn't done after all. ;-)

Based on the success of the event, the buzz it generated and the number of venues that were filled, I hope MoveOn sponsors something like this again after the holidays.

Although we can send it out and make sure our own friends and family watch it, there is a certain energy of a movement, being part of something larger than yourself, that can't be duplicated at the individual level.

14. The movement continues...
You're welcome, and sorry about the Christmas-shopping thing. ;-)

I recall that during the nation-wide conference call with MoveOn staff on Sunday, they mentioned that this event had been so successful that they were thinking of doing something like it again early next year. I am not sure what it would center around though. But your wish may be granted!

As far the the 'energy of a movement' goes, I think that continues. Any subsequent house parties are part of the same movement that produced the 2000+ parties across the country last Sunday. That day kick-started things, but why does the movement have to be a one-night event? Those of us who host future house parties can point to December 7 to show those we invite that this is not just a gathering of a few isolated, powerless people.

20. True enough
My comments weren't meant to be discouraging, just thinking BIG. :-) I'm glad they will be doing something else soon.

MoveOn certainly has emerged as one of the most effective voices on the left. Not only have they been able to successfully harness the power of the Internet, put they've been able translate this into other mediums as well.

I ordered two copies — one for me and one for a friend.

Anybody else ordering a copy?

18. There is a VHS option
Odd that it just says "Buy the DVD!" on the front page, but if you follow the "Order now" link, there is a VHS option after all.

So I think you're in luck. :-)

For those who have gotten it, about how long has shipping been taking?

26. Good question
I ordered it through MoveOn (a special arrangement they had for house party registrants. Donations to MoveOn == copies of the film), and it turns out they have an explicit note that they can't guarantee it to arrive before the holidays.

I don't know how this differs from ordering it directly from the production company.

but it hasn't arrived yet. Want it in time for the kids when they come home for Xmas. Don't you think that would be better than watching "It's a Wonderful World" again for the 584th time?
