Chip Carter, son of former President Jimmy Carter, showed up again in Fort Dodge. In a very similar fashion to his first trip in 1975 or 1976, while then stumping for his father, a little-known Georgia governor, Carter was asking Fort Dodge voters to again elect another little-known governor, Howard Dean.

Perpetual warfare, terrorism and fear = BAD FOR COUNTRY/ECONOMY. Progress gets stifled, and uncertainty makes for a poor environment for business and investment (I'm sure Gates sees thru the Repugs bullsh*t voodoo economics). Never mind that the youth and central demographic of Microsoft's users is being shipped off to rot in Iraq.

Add to that, China is right on the U.S.'s tails with its mass wealth of computer programmers and pirates. They are developing their own software and creating their own networks.

The Dean campaign uses lots of Macs. :-)

Also, according to www.netcraft.com, deanforamerica.com is running Apache on FreeBSD (100% Microsoft free). Subdomains, like commons.deanforamerica.com, are on Linux. Blogforamerica.com is running Apache on Linux (100% Microsoft free). DeanSpace, the open source-based (and free) Dean web site building kit, is platform-independent, with open source MySQL the preferred database. DeanSpace's own web site is Apache on FreeBSD. Pilots for Dean is Apache on Linux.

I only found one exception: howarddean.tv. That's IIS on Windows 2000. Ick. (I think that one's contracted out.)

I like campaigns that keep expenses low. Microsoft costs too much.

Dean had made no secret of the fact that his campaign is based on the lessons learned from the Free / Open Source Software movement.

If BillG endorses Dean, he will also, by association, be endorsing the Open Source Software movement. That's not likely to happen, especially after all the times that BillG and Ballmer have denounced it as Communisitic and UnAmerican.

Also, don't forget the fact that Asscroft basically dropped all charges against Microsoft after they were found guilty of illegaly maintaining their monopoly in desktop software. A slap on the wrist would have seemed extreme compared to the settlement Microsoft got from the Justice Dept.

I don't think it would make a difference one way or another. But there are some people you just don't want to be associated with... like those who have been prosecuted by the federal government for the right reasons.
