Seen the Reagan Legacy Project & what they want to do? (Saddam-esque)
I bow before our national diety (f**king NOT!). Get a load of this -

-------------------
http://www.reaganlegacy.org/main.htm

The Ronald Reagan Legacy Project's mission is to honor and memorialize the historic achievements of President Ronald Reagan. It aims to do so by naming at least one notable public landmark in each state and all 3067 counties after the 40th president.

In recognition of President Reagan's leadership role in the defeat of communism, the Project also seeks to honor his memory in formerly communist countries.

1. This is only the beginning
Forgive me, but I can't help but think we only have years to wait before the George W. Bush Legacy project is also set up.

15. Communism "defeated" What the hell is China...a mirage?
The USSR imploded on itsself with a drunken leadership and squandering of all of its wealth on WMDs (what we are doing now). They let the best features of communism and socialism (social services for all and government owned and controlled public services) fall prey to the worst aspects of capitalism (greed, cheating, lying). They are slowly returning to trying to recapture some of the positive features while adopting the some of the best features of capitalism. What Reagan did was to make a statement (tear down that wall) about 18 months before the wall came down and by some strange notion that was attributed to him as destroying communism. Beyond that, Reagan did nothing more than allow the military-industrial-comples get a stronger foothold on our domestic demise while it frightened other countries into building more WMDs and digging their own graves. What Reagan can take credit for with absolute pride is reigning over an era that saw the proliferation of more WMDs and traditional, but lethal, arms throughout the world including trading arms for hostages with Iran.

Perhaps if someone would tell Sharon to "tear down that wall" withing the next three years we could have another President taking credit for bringing peace to the ME.

2. We need a REAL LAW to stop this shit..
A president's papers MUST be thoroughly gone through, and the real history of his administration written BEFORE stuff gets named after him.. This is the ONLY way to insure that only deserving people get their legacy polished..

Naming things after, and building shrines to "leaders" who are still alive, and whose real record is still under lock and key, is a BAD thing to do...

8. So The Jimmy Carter Interstate Highway System is cool with you?
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 01:45 AM by nu_duer
Just asking...

We'll just rename the entire highway system after Carter - that's ok, right?

And if you don't want to limit the first amendment by including Presidents only, we could name the interstate system after Wellstone. Or Mondale. Or Kucinich. Or Rosa Parks.

But the reagan/bush bots shouldn't worry too much about that - we'll name the rest areas after ronnie.

3. Well, while Karmic justice renders that monster braindead
I will only respond by saying that the only honor that man should get is to given a Christian burial after all the shit he did. Because Jesus forgives all sins, and the blessed martyr is going to need all the help he can get.

His administration made Nixon look like a bloody liberal by comparison. And his successor is really doing a fabulous job of continuing Reagan's abhorrent policies.

I say we rechristen all of the toilets in America "Rons."

4. they're getting this stupid project off the ground with our tax dollars
I said to myself, "Who are these people, who have so much damn time to waste that they can afford to spend it honoring some corporate puppet?"

So I went to the Web site's link, "State Advisory Committees" to look at the names. I highly recommend this for a laugh.

First of all, you've got your Kaloogians and your Poochigians, both from the same state, no less (California).

But mostly there are a lot of "Honorables," which are Repuke state assemblymen. So they're doing it on the taxpayer's dime--using time for which we pay them to act on our behalf to instead propagandize.

It's interesting that some of the most republican states don't have any representatives: Nebraska, for example.

This Reagan project is (not surprisingly) being foisted upon us by the Americans for Tax Reform, whose Web page features an article by, surprise, surprise, one Grover Norquist. They also feature such illustrious book titles as, "The Bush Boom," which is now selling for the discounted rate of $10.49, down from a list price of $14.99. And there are used books available for $10.14. (one has to wonder if such a book wasn't written a long time in advance of the most recent, much ballyhooed "economic numbers." How on earth do you get a "boom" when you have historically high levels of home foreclosures?)

But I digress. Sigh.

13. Not surprising there's a Norquist article on the ATR site
Grover Norquist runs Americans for Tax Reform.

But seriously, this is a great idea, memorializing our Great Leader Ronald Reagan in such a way. In fact, I can think of thousands of sites all over our great land that should be named for Ronald Reagan.

Every garbage dump in America should become the Ronald Reagan Refuse Containment Center. The euthanasia room in every dog pound in the United States should be the Ronald Reagan Death Chamber, and the color of the dye added to euthanasia solution should be named Ronald Reagan Blue. (The company that makes it dyes it blue so they won't mix it up with anything else.) And every community that has a jail, lockup, prison, penitentiary or dungeon should immediately name it the Ronald Wilson Reagan Incarceration Center at (insert name of town).

5. We should do the same for Clinton, but even more
Rather than just yelling about this, we should try to do more than them.

There should be a group to go even further in the name of Bill Clinton. When they try to fight it, we just point out that they are doing the same thing.

The Ronald Reagan Wood Pulp Mill (trees cause pollution)

The Ronald Reagan School of Political Persuasion (deaths squads in South America)

The Ronald Reagan Nuclear Waste Dump (would only have to be a few feet square coz as we know ""All the waste in a year from a nuclear power plant can be stored under a desk.")

The Ronald Reagan School of Political Science (Nancy what do my horoscopes say is it a good day to fuck Nicaragua)
