Stars and Stripes: Letters to the Editor.
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 08:54 AM by DarkPhenyx
I know there are many people on this list who believe the U.S. Military is nothing but a group of RW goons who are out there solely for the agrandisement of Bush. Many who don't believe that will still appreciate reading these letters. I know it helped lift my spirits some, and I am a Liberal in the military.

3. Those letters were more articulate, well written, and reasoned...
Than half the dreck that appears on these pages from so-called liberals.

Thank you.

"I know there are many people on this list who beleive the U.S. Military is nothing but a group of RW goons who are out there solely for the agrandisement of Bush."

Please, if there are people here at DU who fit this description, please come talk to me. Talk to me here, or PM me, or e-mail me. I want to tell you about my life. I want to tell you about my dad who was in the Army. I want to tell you about my grandpa who retired from the Air Force. I want to tell you about all my friends from my own Air Force days. I want you to know about the liberal presence in the military. Too often, the military gets lumped in with Bush and is demonized on DU. I think there are some other DU vets who will back me up on this. The way I see it, the fact that there are vets hanging out on DU everyday pretty much proves my point.

PEACE!

5. Hey Now! We might forgive you being a godless liberal...
...but I'm not sure we can forgive you for being a zoomie! ;-)

6. All we need to do is also look at our leadership...
As much as we demonize many of our senate and congressional dem leaders, there are so many of them that served with honor.

years service, and still serving my Uncle Sam. Plus I'm a proud, Liberal, Democrat! Go Clark! Oh yeah, the letters from the European edition of Stars and Stripes were excellent.

7. Unfair generalization of 'many' DUers
I've only seen a couple of people here who have expressed antagonizm towards the military. Mostly, people are just frustrated with Bush's war and the position he's put our troops in. I remember someone saying this (read the reply to this post) about making unfair generalizations:

BTW, thanks for the link.

10. I think it depends on your definition of many.
Many is far from a majority, or even a sizable minority.

8. Thank you
Most enjoyable Friday reading.

The writer also couldn’t be more wrong in his implication that liberal-minded Americans are cowards or un-American. They are the conscience of America and are responsible for maintaining a balance by preventing a slide into fascism.

Ahh, my favorite job discription! :D

12. Great letters
I especially liked:

Interestingly enough, right wing radicals seem to believe that they’re infallible and always right. They fail to realize that the Constitution, which protects their right to express their views, also protects the right of those with opposing views. That’s the spirit of this unique document.

...The writer should also take a closer look at President Bush’s military record. Bush spent his military time in an elitist Reserve unit which guaranteed that he’d stay out of harm’s way.

And even then he couldn't be bothered to show up.

13. Thanks
for sharing the link honey. As the sister and cousin and niece of several veterans it always does my heart proud to see liberals in the military stand up.
