Poll question: Does anyone here work for Karl Rove?
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 12:49 PM by WilliamPitt
I think Rove's name gets mentioned more than Bush's around here. He gets mentioned alot when people post threads about candidates that aren't filled with hearts and flowers. So let's get a sampling:

I have not and WILL not speak ill of any democratic candidate (at least until after the election, but even then I doubt I would do it).

Any of the 9 would be a vast improvement to the chimp. Al and Senator Hillary could both jump in for all I care! The more the merrier, and the less of a clear shot Rove has at the front runner!

44. Truer words...
ANY of them could be the nominee. Every time that anyone here bashes a DEM candidate, they are doing the work of the repub smear machine. I won't say just Rove b/c I don't give him that much credit or think he's that smart. It's a team effort on behalf of the repubs. Too bad it isn't over here.

And that doesn't mean that people can't have a favorite. But tearing down another DEM does nothing to help your guy*.

* "guy" used on purpose since I have never seen a supporter of Braun slam another Dem. :-)

15. In Richard Wright's "Black Boy". . .
he writes of a prospective employer who harshly questioned him: "Do you steal?" Wright thought a moment, realized a man would have to be an idiot to answer such a question. 'Yes, ma'am. I steals,' he told her. She thought it a "sassy" answer but hired him nonetheless. The next day, he quit.

29. Karl Rove IS Kaiser Soze...
"He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Kobayashi tell it, anybody could have worked for Soze. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. One story the guys told me - the story I believe - was from his days in Turkey. There was a petty gang of Hungarians that wanted their own mob. They realized that to be in power you didn't need guns or money or even numbers. You just needed the will to do what the other guy wouldn't. After a while they come to power, and then they come after Soze He was small time then, just running dope, they say... They come to his home in the afternoon, looking for his business. They find his wife and kids in the house and decide to wait for Soze. He comes home to his wife raped and his children screaming. The Hungarians knew Soze was tough, so they let him know they meant business. They tell him they want his territory -all his business. Soze looks over the faces of his family... Then he showed these men of will what will really was. He tells him he would rather see his family dead than live another day after this. He lets the last Hungarian go, and he goes running. He waits until his wife and kids are in the ground and he goes after the rest of the mob. He kills their kids, he kills their wives, he kills their parents and their parents' friends. He burns down the houses they live in and the stores they work in, he kills people that owe them money. And like that - he was gone. Underground, no one has ever seen him again. He becomes a myth, a spook story that criminals tell their kids at night. Rat on your pop, and Keyser Soze will get you. And nobody really ever believe."

"Keaton always said,I don't believe in God,but I'm afraid of Him.Well I believe in God and the only thing that scares me is Keyser Soze"

"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn't exist."

"And like that, he's gone"

(The Usual Suspects)

I'm on his payroll. He pays me to... I don't really know, he's weird like that. The one day he called me in his office and out of the blue just asked me if I ever thought about horses intimately. I was like "WTF Karl". He got a bit flustered, said something about Jews, zeig heiled and told me to go away.

Weirdddoooo! He looks ten times puffier in real life, btw.

31. No, but I did know (in college) a top Rove protégé
who later took over Karl's political consulting firm in Texas after Karl moved on to the White House. This protégé's mother is also a politician in Texas. It was an unpleasant circumstance for me that the mini-Karl Rove was a fellow student in an Oxford study-abroad program offered through my university (Boston U)--although this guy was not actually a BU student. I had the misfortune of getting to know this guy pretty well. This was back in 93-94. The memories of him make my skin crawl.

48. Can you elaborate further?
Was he a lying scum with no conscience or morals?

Spoiled rich kid who could care nothing for anyone besides himself and his narrow circle of friends?

Did he borrow your car only to wreck it, telling you "I'll pay you back when my Dad sends me money<' and of course never did?

All this and more?

Please, do tell...

52. Lying Scum-Yes! Spoiled Rich Kid--Yes!
Fortunately, I didn't have a car for him to wreck, but that's the sort of thing he might have done.

After being acquainted with him for several months, during which time we usually argued about politics, he suddenly and seriously declared that he was "in love" with me, and how did I feel about that. (I'm pretty sure I knew what his motives were for that). He had, in this few months time being in Oxford, evolved himself from a preppy snot-nose (offended at the smell of marijuana), to a more scruffy, bearded type--just to fit in, no doubt. Anyway, after I rejected him romantically, he refused to speak to me, even though I saw him every single day in class or at the pub.

A few weeks after declaring his love to me, he decided to take a secret Canary Islands vacation with a girl who had been part of this same study program with us the previous semester. She was VERY innocent and easily manipulated--he took full advantage. He didn't plan for any of his friends in Oxford to find out about his secret tryst, but we did.
