How will George W Bush avoid any presidential debates?
My guess: "The President is currently too busy protecting our country from terrorists, and the fact that Nr. Clark wants to debate him during such an important time of national security, should be clear proof to the American people that Mr. Clark would rather play politics than deal with national security".

I seriously expect them to pull this type of thing.
The question is, will the general public or the media care? Or will they give the smug, arrogant idiot a pass, as they always do?

It'll be a chance for the Dem nominee to attack Bush fiercely for not debating--yet chances are, the media will surely spin it as the Dem being "desperate" for wanting to appear on stage with Bush and "a baby" for not accepting Bush's decision. "How can this man lead the country when he can't accept that President Bush would rather protect America than get involved in a useless shouting match?".

Am I wrong in any of this? Do you suspect there will be a debate, in which Bush will obviously come off as an idiot or get crushed? Will his handlers allow it?

3. I don't think he'll have to, given the state of Corporate TV Pravda
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 01:38 PM by tom_paine
And of course, no matter WHAT he does in the debates, the entirety of Party-Loyal Right-Wing Sub-Media and it's allies burrowing from within Corporate TV Pravda will say, "BUSH WON! SHUT UP! BUSH WON! SHUT UP! BUSH WON! SHUT UP! BUSH WON! SHUT UP!"

And millions upon millions of Imperial Subjects will believe it, have not watched it for themselves.

Never underestimate the power of Bushevik Pravda. They could sell a majority of the Imperial Subjects on "1 + 1 = 3", thoughthey would never tip their hand by trying something so obvious that might wake people up, plus it serves them no useful purpose...

4. It is sad to say,
but this is how Bush will do it. As for Dean, he should say, "The President is not to busy to raise millions for his campaign or party but to busy to debate me. What is better for the American people?"

7. Good!
"All we are asking is that the Resident cancel JUST ONE of his fundraisers and come discuss the issues with us"

"The Resident can spend a month on vacation every year, he can surely spare one evening to defend his disastrous first term".

I would also call him a coward, and infer not-too-subtly that he's refusing to denate because he's dumb.

6. It's all about the moderator

My guess is that in order for the Bush to have any success in a debate the neutral moderators will have to be Tony Snow from Fox News, Robert Novak from CNN, and Joe Scarabough from MSNBC.

Then everything will be fair and balanced betwen the democratic nominee and El Buscho.

11. The debate:
Mr. Clark, tell us in 15 seconds what you plan to do to avoid destroying the economy the way Mr. Clinton did before President Bush came along to resurrect it.

President Bush, take as long as you need to discuss your feelings as you saw the wonderful video of our brave soldiers and their loyal Iraqi allies pulling down the statue of Saddam Hussein.

Mr. Clark, tell us in 30 seconds how you plan to overcome the fact that you don't know anything about the military.

President Bush, take twenty minutes and tell us how the economy will grow like dandelions as soon as you've eliminated all taxes on the richest 500 people in America.

Lucianne Goldberg will be the moderator, Pigboy Limbaugh will be the judge and the audience will be 100 percent Republican.

12. Don't forget "Mr. Clark, today we learned you are in a Satanic cult."
which doesn't surprise any of us given your close associations with Hilary Clinton. But can you explain how a Satanist can justify direct support of Islamic terrorist organizations?

14. I want to see Bush stand next to Kerry
That would take all the pseudo-machoism right out of George's shorts. If he had to debate Kerry, I bet he would demand a stool to stand on so Kerry wouldn't tower of him, literally. Figuratively, Kerry would still be head-and-shoulders above Bush.

Maybe that is why Bush wants Dean. He doesn't care abou the issues, he just cares about being able to be bigger than the other guy.

15. I Suspect There Will Be Some Tragedy That Rove Orchestrated
he'll have to go visit a family member in the hospital and stay at their bedside or there'll be black outs or brown outs. they'll find a way to get their prized "D" student out of the debates.

16. Beat The Clock
Remember, the Repugnicans aren't holding their Whites Only lovefest until 9/11...and then they'll need a "couple weeks" to organize the "national campaign" (cough, cough). That puts us into October...and then we have the fun of both political organizations meeting to agree on the number of debates, where and when. That's where Rove can stall and hem and haw and one day say there won't be a debate and then the next say there is.

Bottom Line: There probably will be two debates...both less than two weeks before the election and carefully staged/located to Rove's advantage. The hope is this is a desperation move as the polls continue to trend south.

17. He'll pull a ShwarzenEgged and have one with prepared questions
asked by the most sycophantic reporters he and his buds can find. It will be worse of a show than no debates.

I'm cynical. Sometimes, violence is the only response.
