So what happened to Martha Stewart?
I've been home with the flu the last couple of daysand noticed that Martha Stewart, who used to be all over daytime TV, is nowhere to be found. Her hour-long CBS show has evidentially been cancelled and I didn't notice her on the food channel or HGTV.

I hate to think that a Democrat has had her career ruined over some minor insider trading while Cheney squats in Washington like a toad with his fat Halliburton stock options and loots the treasury.

2. That's About It
What hurt is she was named to the board of the NYSE when the news broke. Rovian interests thought it better to sacrifice a Democrat than any of "his" ilk to divert public opinion from the billions they're stealing to the few thousands she might have made.

What scares me is the lengths ShrubCo is willing to go to hide any and all information before a Democrat gets elected to replace him.

3. She hasn't just had her career ruined...
She is going to prison over this one. They didnt even charge her with insider trading. They charged her with stock fraud. This is a good one. She supposedly dumped some ImClone stock (about $20,000 worth) on insider knowledge. There came word that she was being investigated for this. She released a statement proclaiming innocence. Now the DOJ charges her with stock fraud saying she artificially inflated her own company's stock by proclaiming innoncence! The sentencing guidelines are all based on monetary scales (in the case of white collar crimes) so by using her own stock which had a valuation at the time of nearly $1 billion she is quite literally looking at a potential 20 year sentence in a maximum security facility. The whole thing is ludicrous. She'll most likely accept a plea bargain at some point and then be sentenced to a mimimum security facility (that which the ignorant call "club fed" but which are really prisons just as much as any other in the federal system. The only difference is that there are no walls). Our Criminal Justice system is aptly named. Thankfully the SCOTUS and the federal judges are finally starting to speak out against the draconian sentencing guidelines which are blatantly unConstitutional in that they violate the checks and balances by placing sentencing into the hands of the legislature.

4. I agree with you that
Martha is getting a royal shafting. I agree that some of the trading laws are unjust, and punitive. Where I cannot agree with you is the statement that it is unconstitutional for sentencing, that is, the appropriate punishment, to be placed in the hands of the legislature. that kind of thing is what legislatures are for.

5. Martha is "on the shelf" for now..
They can dust her off anytime there is a slow news day, or they want to remind folks that she is/was a BIG DEMOCRAT-supporter..

Apparently her "trial" is coming up in January, so surely we will hear more..

I found it utterly tasteless that they showed that "Martha Stewart is a Bitch" movie during her "investigation".. Maybe they will show a re-run just before jury selection so that people will have that idea in their heads..

Martha was a powerful businesswoman, and she stepped on toes.. She did a silly thing and it cost her dearly..
