I'm From Missouri..................Show Me!
Here in Missouri we have hit the trifecta; John Ashcroft, Kit Bond and Dick Gephart. So I know losers when I see them.

Show me why Gephart should be president. He's been in Congress for more than twenty years. His resume stinks. The only thing he's got is ambition to be president.

Show me why Lieberman should be president. He's a spineless republican in democrat's clothing.

Show me why Edwards should be president. He looks way too earnest when he speaks, as if he is trying to convince himself. Plus, I have heard no substantive ideas or solutions from him.

Show me why CMB and Al Sharpton are even in this race. It can't be because they honestly think they have a legitimate chance at being the democratic nominee for president. If it is to push minority issues to the forefront, then that is fine. But pesidential contenders? Get real.

Show me why Wesley Clark should be president. It wasn't until the last minute, when he finally decided he wanted to run. And why did he wait until this week to unvail a domestic agenda? Hmmm.....

Show me how a very liberal congressman(Dennis Kucinich) could ever have a shot at being president with such an extreme liberal core of supporters? Can never happen Too bad, really, because I too am liberal, but am also a pragmatist.

Show me why we should vote for John Kerry, who continually sits on the fence to see which way the wind blows, and who has a hard time connecting with the voters.

And finally, show me why we SHOULDN'T support Howard Dean, who bucked the system, bucked the odds, left Vermont in much better shape then it was before he became governor and is able to connect with voters.

Show Me

39. And John Danforth (the man who brought you Clarence Thomas)
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 11:18 PM by Peregrine
When I still lived in Missouri, we had Symington and Richard Bolling (my rep).

Of course our Governors usually had alot to be desired: Hearns. I was at MU when Hearns Field House got built. And of course the guy who replaced Hearns, Teasdale. What a crappy Governor he was, he made sure republicans would gain control of the state with his ineptness. Of course he didn't expect to win, so he wasn't prepared to be Governor, and it showed.

Mel Carnahan, of course.

I wish Ashcroft would be reminded of that frequently....

8. Uhh, Dean can't beat George Bush? How about that one?
I only phrase it that way because your post consists entirely of put downs of the other candidates followed by a boost to Dean.

I don't think we can beat Bush with another run-of-the-mill politician and when you get past all the glitz and glitter of his super duper whiz bang campaign, that's what Howard Dean is. He didn't make the cut in 2000 so he came back in 2003 with another game plan which worked much better. He probably is just as surprised as the rest of us but that doesn't change the nature of the man.

He was the governor of a tiny state, for pete's sake. Rudy Giuliani ran a city that has ten times the population of Vermont. Does that make Rudy a great leader? It simply makes him a good, big city politician. Dean is a good, small state Governor.

Someone with the credentials to beat an incumbent President in a time of war? Sorry, dude. This time YOU'LL have to show ME ;^)

And I've never even been in Missouri.

19. Joe it doesn't take a crystal ball
Beleif doesn't make it so.

Can you show me one candidate who defeated an incumbent president during a time of war? Ever? In history?

Can you show me any substantive difference between Howard Dean and the other Democratic candidates outside of his present success within the democratic party?

Do you ever wonder WHY we have a Republican Congress?

The only way we will beat Bush is by giving people an opportunity to vote for someone different, who they can vote for without feeling that they are rejecting everything they have believed in the past.

Do you really think Howard Dean fits that bill? Because he learned to use the Internet better and faster than his opposition? Because he has a lot of grassroots volunteers? Because he was governor of Vermont? Because he wants to eliminate all of the BushCo taxes?

Because he was against the War?

Think about it, Joe. Work the math. If we do the same old thing, we will end up in the same old place. Losing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I cannot see one reason why Howard Dean will beat President and Commander in Chief George W. Bush in November 2004. The only way Bush will lose to him is if, like that old Missouri political joke goes, they find him in bed with a dead woman or a live boy. I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Again, not a crystal ball. Maybe a reality check.

29. Sure, George Bush
And what do the polls all you guys take so seriously say the American public thinks about that?

Wait! NEWSFLASH! Dean is going on TV and tell everybody the war was wrong and Bush lied.

Its been done, over and over and over and the majority of Americans still think it was the right thing to do EVEN though Bush lied through his teeth to do it.

If Howard Dean tells those folks he's got a better answer to the War on Terror, why should they listen, even if they want to? What are his credentials?

If Clark says the same thing those who want an alternative to Bush will have a legitimate justification for listening to the arguments. Here's a guy who can do everything Bush can do as a military leader, and do it better. How hard is that to understand?

31. You can't be serious
You can't be a military man and be a progressive?

Oh, are they all neanderthal babykillers? I didn't get the politically correct memo for today.

Any other groups we "shouldn't" consider progressive? How about them Mexicans in California? Trial lawyers?

You know, I personally think we should never allow a KKK member like Harry Truman to become President. After all, how progressive could he be with something like that in his background?

would become a democrat, too? Buddy, where there's smoke, there is usually fire. Why did Clark decide to go to West Point in the middle of the raging sixties? I have to question his belief structure. Anyway, he is not for me. Good luck with him.

At the height of the JFK administration? Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. Not quite as impressive as Mogul skiing I'll admit...

18. if you thnk Edwards has no substance
you are either blind, successfully manipulated by the media or disinclined to find out.

He has had a substanative plan laid out for many months, has stuck to it (which was easy as it was well concieved) and can nt only speak in any level of detail you like about it but also do so extemporaneoulsly.

Dr Dean nas failed on all those counts.

Many of your other obsevations are quite accurate.
