If Nader runs, what's DU's policy toward Naderites?
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 09:27 PM by mot78
Will they be banned just for promoting Nader (ex: stickers, avatars, promoting him in a non-Democrat-biashing manner) or will they be allowed to stay and flaunt their Nader-wear unless they make scathing remarking towards our nominee?

2. I think the policy toughens significantly, after the Dem convention.
Just something that comes to mind; I have read it before.

6. Here's a link to the DU Guideline
I certainly don't aim to predict what will happen after we have Democratic Party nominee for President, but within the General Message Board Rules, there exists this:

SPECIAL GUIDELINES RELATING TO THE 2004 ELECTION

Excerpt (with emphasis by VolcanoJen):

SPECIAL GUIDELINES RELATING TO THE 2004 ELECTION

Perhaps the most critical question currently facing progressives is who should receive the Democratic nomination for president in 2004. In order to encourage a robust and thoughtful debate on this topic, we are instituting a few simple guidelines.

Negative attacks are an unavoidable part of any political campaign, and therefore they are permitted against any Democratic presidential candidate. However, once the Democratic party officially nominates its candidate for president, then the time for fighting is over and the negative attacks against candidates must stop. The administrators of this website do not wish for our message board to be used as a platform to attack and tear down the only progressive on the planet with any hope of defeating George W. Bush. Constructive criticism and even outright disappointment with the candidate may be expressed, but partisan negative attacks will not be welcome. If you wish to contribute to the defeat of the Democratic candidate for president, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website. As the election season draws closer, we may expand this rule to include Democratic candidates for other political offices.

Democratic Underground may not be used for political organizing activity by supporters of any political party other than the Democratic party. Supporters of certain other political parties may use Democratic Underground for limited partisan activities in political races where there is no Democratic party candidate.

8. This worries me...
"As the election season draws closer, we may expand this rule to include Democratic candidates for other political offices."

Suppose three Democrats, a Republican and a Libertarian are running for a state or local office and one of the Democrats is frighteningly corrupt. Would we be able to bash that Democrat as long as we supported another Democrat? What if the Republican or Libertarian was truly the best candidate?

I don't honestly expect to encounter this problem; we seldom have ANY good candidates here in Washington State, but the one or two exceptions I can think of were independents.

"Democratic Underground may not be used for political organizing activity by supporters of any political party other than the Democratic party. Supporters of certain other political parties may use Democratic Underground for limited partisan activities in political races where there is no Democratic party candidate."

I guess that's fair; I'm certainly not interested in supporting the Greens or Libertarians at this point.

7. IMO
If Nader runs in '04 and Bush wins. . . That's not to say that Greens should be banned, it's just that there should be a moratorioum on Nader imagery for a while.

Bush/Nader 04, you keep rocking greens!

9. My husband and I were just talking about this last night.
Conclusion: Nader (if he runs) will not get many votes.

10. I like Nader...
I love the Green Party. But....if Nader were to run, I wouldn't vote for him. We need to vote for a candidate that will have the best chance of winning, and Nader isn't the guy.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want this to be a flame post, but we all need to realize that we have to get rid of Bush and Co. or else go through another four years, eight years, or a lifetime of Bush, and he may well become dictator of the country if he were to get "reelected."

We have to vote for the Democrat who gets the nomination in 2004, that's the bottom line.

Here's something to think about: Remember the three years Bush has been in office. Now take that times 10.

Thanks.
