Black Box Voting: Announcement Pending
From Bev Harris and Andy Stephenson:

Something came up late last week. Because of that, Andy Stephenson and I did a swing through Vancouver, Canada. We would like to announce our findings.

We will hold a press conference on Tuesday Dec. 16 in Seattle, Washington. If you are a Seattleite and can suggest a venue for this -- better yet, assist with arranging for microphones, suggesting a place that can hold a few dozen people plus cameras, easy to find for media even if they are coming from out of town, please e-mail stephenson_for_sos@yahoo.com.

If you are a journalist, in my opinion, this is worth a visit to Washington. Media information goes out Sunday night. Press contact: E-mail Bevharriscontact@aol.com to make sure you're on the list.

Yes, the book is done. I'd love to have books to pass out at the press conference, but doubt that the print copies can be in Seattle by Tuesday -- will ask David tomorrow about that.

However, this press conference contains new information not previously released.

Bev Harris

I noticed that Robert Mak from King-5 is always dogging Tim Eyman. He seems to be very knowledgeable about voting issues.

Maybe Bev or Andy should try to give him a personal head's up?

It occurs to me that if you held the press conference in front of Tim Eyman's post office box...every station in town would show up.

Any chance Eyman has taken donations from any of the voting machine companies?

Keep us posted!

61. Is the timing of Saddam's capture suspicious?
Bev posted this news in the early hours of Saturday morning. The capture of Saddam occurred something like 8 hours later. Is this just a coincidence? One might wonder whether someone has been keeping tabs on Saddam for quite a while (and on DU and BBV.org) and decided to move when it would have the most news value. Hmm?

Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 12:45 AM by BevHarris
This is solid information, very disturbing, which will take concerns about black box voting to a new level.

The press conference will be held at 2 p.m. I am really stressing here -- I need to start rolling the press releases out NOW and I haven't got a confirm on a place. I've already got a camera guy flying in from L.A., it would be nice if I can tell him where he's going.

Does anyone know if you need a permit to hold a press conference in a public building like the public library? I'm sure you do. A really spacious Starbucks? Someone in Seattle have a relatively easy to find business we can do this at? Aarrgh.

Wait -- what about a hotel lobby? That has possibilities...but this is politically sensitive and I don't want to shoot 5,000 press releases out and then get it shut down on before it starts.

Bev

Bev,

Maybe you can schedule to use a room in the public library, like is done other places for meetings, etc.

I don't know why that would take a permit.

104. That's a good idea
How big would the place need to be? How many people are expected?

If worse comes to worst, you could rent a hall or room like people do for parties.

I know a lot of law firms that let people use their large conference rooms especially if reporters and cameras are involved (we don't know who they are or what they're about but it makes us look important!... Roll Tape!). ;)

Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 02:31 PM by Johnyawl
Let me know, and confirm the address and time, I'd love to be there. I could come early and help out if you need some bodies. Don't know much about microphones, etc, but I'm a carpenter,I'm strong and can take direction well.

I'm also big, beafy and hairy,(my kids think I look like an old Hell's Angel) so if you need some help with crowd control, like throwing freepers out on the sidewalk, I'd be more than happy to help with that.

NEWS CONFERENCE - BREAKING - Voting Systems Security Concerns Rise to New Level

Press Conference in Seattle at 2 p.m. Tuesday December 16 - at Seattle Labor Temple - 2800 First Ave. - Seattle

16 DEC 2003, Seattle WA — This is of national interest. A new security concern has surfaced which may eclipse the software holes in the Diebold voting system found by Johns Hopkins and Rice University scientists in July. Bev Harris, author of “Black Box Voting” and Andy Stephenson, democratic candidate for Washington secretary of state, have uncovered new holes in the electoral system in King County and in as many as 14 additional states.

These security breaches affect both the optical scan systems (fill-in-the-dot or draw-the-line) and touch screen voting systems, and may also indicate significant security problems with absentee voting procedures.

At the Tuesday press conference, Harris and Stephenson will distribute a packet of documents to support their allegations. Whereas electronic voting concerns have focused on complex issues like cryptographic security and computer source code, the new security flaws uncovered by Harris and Stephenson are more serious and also easier to explain. Because the subject matter is sensitive, reporters will want copies of the original documents to substantiate the allegations, and these will be released at the news conference.

The news conference will be held in Seattle at 2 p.m. in a location to be disclosed Monday morning on the front page of this BlackBoxVoting.org.

“This information is significant enough to merit a trip to Seattle for members of the press who don’t live here,” says Harris. It affects four counties in Washington State and locations in Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Maryland and Virginia.

“What we have are two intertwined security breaches which deserve immediate attention from the U.S. Congress,” says Stephenson. “We need to address procedural safeguards as soon as possible to put a halt to these problems and prevent them from ever happening again.”

A 20-page dossier will provide the specific U.S. locations affected, as well as the details on multiple security breaches which may have compromised the integrity of at least two dozen elections.

131. This one applies too
"It riles them to believe that you perceive."

Yep, love that group.

Also know about the Boeing press conference.

AND...

That Secretary of State Sam Reed announced in an earlier press conference Washington State would require paper records.

Made himself sound all concerned and such. It's only taken eight months of hard fighting to get them to do this, and really, really suspicious in the face of Bev and Andy's press conference coming down.

Can you say, "Trying to save face?"

WKYT- CBS, and WTVQ-ABC WTVQ is passing the info on to National.
