Channel surfing at 8:00 am today all news had two stories:
1. Flu
2. Halliburton. All mentioned "Cheney was CEO"
However all showed clip of the moron trying to distance himself from Cheney by saying "if they overcharged they should pay it back"....

1. It's election year so
he will try to appear to walk on water this year. He will do no wrong in the eyes of his supporters. They'll say,"look how honest he is," while he does a snow job on them.

It's sickening. This guy never gets caught with anything. I keep telling myself, what goes around DOES indeed come around...but when?

Geezee...

2. Halliburton already received 15 billion
...in government contracts according to one report. Cheney has been paid millions from Halliburton. Now that he "retired," I believe he gets $180,000 a year from Halliburton. He's done his best work for them since he was appointed assistant dictator.

3. This has been known for YEARS
IS there a site that gives a good historical perspective on Halliburtons misdeeds?

I read something through Buzzflash about their business shops in Iran, their history (this is NOT) the only time they have ripped off the government and other cronyism when they first won the no bid.

I think, also, Dubyla worked for them as well -- any truth to that rumor? I thought that was in Moore's last book.

17. Good idea, ourwinter
I think I'll do some research on "Halliburton Watch". If it doesn't exist, it certainly should.

4. If the Plame story hasn't stuck...
...the the Halliburton story won't either. Sorry for my cynicism on this, but it seems every time I get my hopes up about a particular story, it seems to disappear.

Sidebar - how many times will CNN show that inaccurate fluff piece about Poppy's faux "heroism" during WW2 (called humorously "A Flyboy's story)? It's on again tonight at 8pm... :puke:

5. You just have to keep chipping away
This story might actually be bigger than the Plame story. They seem to be a lot more worried about this one. Maybe because it is directly linked to the top and there is so much money involved. Especially since Iraq is such a mess and there really is nothing to show for all this money that's been spent. Has anyone else noticed that we don't get to see pictures of all these rebuilding projects?

6. this story has potential to be
what "outs" the truth behind why we really invaded Iraq, but Bush has such a huge damage control team that they have already thought of it. However, I expect someone will eventually become begruntled about something and blow their whistle. I just don't believe that when someone has been "wronged" it can be covered forever.

8. So far no one has come forward
who wants to go down in history has the one who pulled their finger out of the hole in the dam.

The problem with the Bu$hCo scandal in comparision to past presidental scandals, is that Bu$hCo goes way beyond the WH. This scandal is global and everyone from the military to the media are involved. There's going to be a lot cleaning up to do when this whole mess finally falls apart.

12. I don't think it's going to take an insider to "out" the criminals
Find out what was spent (checking Halliburton's quarterly report or numbers published by the gov't or numbers dug up by the press), and then just go to Iraq (trying hard to not get shot in the back by a "friendly") and take some pictures of what the Iraqis got for that money.

16. If you can't go to Iraq
then the next best thing is search the Internet. So far this is the best I can come up with for pictures that show any evidence of any sort of rebuilding. You would think with the billions we've spent that there would be 100's of photo ops has a result? Also considering how much this misadminstration complains that no one is reporting good news from Iraq, you would think they'ld be releasing pics left and right of all of their accomplishments?

9. There's going to be trouble by next summer...
Has anyone else noticed that we don't get to see pictures of all these rebuilding projects?

By next summer, the inability to account for virtually any of the money spent in Iraq (with photos, like you suggest), is going to make for some very interesting articles.

"$20M paid so far on the Iraq museum reconstruction project shows a scaffold on the north side of the building and not much else..."

"$110M paid so far on the electrical system reconstruction project in Bahgdad shows the contstruction of just 2 generating stations begun..."

And on and on.

7. The moron tried to distance himself from ENRON as well
Even had the balls to claim he'd never met Ken Lay at one point. Yeah right, the guy he called "kenny boy" whose fucking lear jet he used for campaigning.... Of course he's gonna claim no knowledge of the Halliburton fraud.

Has Uncle Dick been seen above ground since this whole story broke, or is he too busy trying to launder money into the Cayman Islands before someone investigates?

21. NPR 's Dan Shor
Daniel Shor mentioned this fact in regard to Halliburton's presence in Iraq. He said they do everything form puting out oil fires to serving food. He mentioned the dissatifaction with their performance.
I remember reading sometime last year that Halliburton is one of the most fined corps in America. Anyone confirm any past problems?

23. That is precisely WHY the military needs to take care of its own
When the military had real supply and procurement people, THEY made sure that their guys got the "good stuff".. They were not above wheedling, cajoling and yes, even stealing if they had to, BUT they made sure that it was for their soldiers..

Privatization means that it's now all "done on the cheap".. The privateers are NOT soldiers...they are businessmen. It's OK with them that soldiers carrying 50# plus of gear in 125 degree heat only get 2 liters of water a day (if they're lucky).. It's OK with them if those same soldiers have FABRIC footwear and no rain gear in the winter..(It's near freezing and it's RAINING a lot).. It's ok with them if they get little if any fresh food, and instead must "beg" for food from family and friends..

Privateers only care about THEIR bottom line, while the soldiers are putting their lives on a different line
